Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Point of Care Testing (POCT) Lead to lead, manage, and develop POCT services across the Trust.
This is a senior role within Pathology Services, providing professional and operational leadership for all aspects of POCT, ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and governance requirements while supporting safe, highquality patient care.
The post holder will work closely with clinical teams, pathology colleagues, quality teams, and external suppliers to ensure effective implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of POCT services.
Main duties of the job
The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Lead is a specialist healthcare scientist role responsible for the day to day delivery, quality and governance of the POCT service across the Trust. The post holder is HCPC registered and educated to master's level, or holds an equivalent level of specialist knowledge, with extensive post registration experience and an in-depth understanding of UKAS and ISO requirements and quality management systems.
Working within defined occupational policies, the post holder is the recognised day to day lead for the service, analysing complex quality and performance data, advising clinical and non-clinical staff across the Trust, and leading the development of guidelines, procedures and service improvements for POCT.
Provide strategic, operational, and professional leadership for Point of Care Testing across the TrustEnsure POCT services comply with national standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation (e.g. UKAS ISO 22870/15189)Develop, implement, and monitor POCT policies, procedures, and standard operating proceduresAct as the Trust expert and lead advisor on POCT, providing specialist guidance to clinical and managerial staffLead and support POCT training, competency assessment, and ongoing education for clinical usersManage POCT quality assurance, audit, incident investigation, and corrective actionsOversee evaluation, procurement, validation, and implementation of new POCT equipment and assays

Qualifications Essential
State registration with Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) MSC, or equivalent academic achievement ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) OR equivalent Level 7 Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma Qualification in delivering training Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HCP guidelines Post registration speciality training in accordance with institute of biomedical science

Attended formal management course Good awareness of current issues within Pathology locally and nationally
Experience Essential
*Extensive post registration experience. *In-depth, knowledge of routine/ specialist investigations. *Working knowledge of other departments. *Knowledge of Health and Safety Issues. *Knowledge of laboratory computer system and analyser interfaces. *Good IT Skills and ability to produce and manage databases and spreadsheets. *In-depth understanding of UKAS & ISO requirements and quality management systems. *Experience with audit. *Clear understanding of the procurement process. *Ability to work on own initiative and the ability to supervise and organise other staff. *Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. *Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information *Must be approachable and patient. *Well organised, show attention to detail, but also flexibility. *Ability to achieve objectives
