Job summary

6 month fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity

An opportunity has arisen to work within the General Surgery Administration Team.

As a Senior Medical Secretary you will be an integral part of the team. You will work within an experienced administration team. As a staff member within a surgical speciality you will be responsible for managing effective pathways - from GP referrals through to surgical procedures, tracking cancer patients, theatre list planning, outpatient clinics and waiting list management (PTL) and consultant diary planning.

You will help to adapt, change, and continue to work on improvement so that every patient through the department has the best care. You will communicate well with senior colleagues, clinicians and your peers to ensure everyone is working well and helping each other achieve good outcomes for patients.

The department is seeking a friendly, hard-working and professional Senior Medical Secretary who will be an asset to the team. You will have a good eye for detail, be able to accept and learn from constructive critique and continue to learn and develop your skills.

Main duties of the job

As the postholder, you will be responsible for the following:

o Typing and formatting clinic letters and correspondence to a high standard

o Booking OPAs and TCIs for patients (cancer and non-cancer)

o Managing patient queries via telephone and email in a timely and compassionate manner

o Supporting the wider multi-disciplinary team

o Effective PTL management

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

o Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise a busy and varied workload

o A proactive and flexible approach to working within a fast-paced clinical environment

o Confidence in using electronic patient systems and Microsoft Office applications

Qualifications Essential

RSA III or equivalent training or experience Maintenance of skills and knowledge base through mandatory training and work experience.
