About this role

Job summary

The Senior Clinical Services Manager is a key member of the Clinical Services (CS) team. This role is designed for an experienced leader (at least two years in a clinical service management or similar leadership role) with a strong record in service delivery and transformation. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the wider Clinical Services team to build their knowledge of project planning from the project definition through to the digest stages.

The post holder will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating services that are closely aligned with ABCs values and our members priorities, working closely with commissioners and Surrey Primary Care in Surrey to establish new pathways and manage ABCs relationship particularly in the East Surrey patch. Day to day duties will include management of their own portfolio of services such as ADHD Primary Care Connect (Crawley) and Workflow (Sussex) whilst supporting, and deputising for, the Head of Clinical Services as required. Within Sussex the postholder will be work closely with Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust, Primary Care Provider Collaborative, Sussex Integrated Health as well as Sussex Community Foundation Trust and other community providers.

Main duties of the job

This is a high-impact role responsible for driving excellence, innovation, and operational performance across all clinical services. The Senior Clinical Services Manager acts as the principal deputy to the Head of Clinical Services, providing strategic oversight, expert operational leadership, and robust governance to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality care delivery. They will support team development of CS managers and coordinators whilst maintaining strong links with other departments including Finance, Quality, Digital and the PCN team. This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong leadership, proactivity and excellent communication skills.

This role requires exceptional leadership capability, advanced operational judgement, and the ability to influence at executive and system level. The Senior Clinical Services Manager will deputise for the Head of Clinical Services and ensure clinical services are resilient, data-driven, patient-centred, and aligned with organisational priorities.

Strategic Planning and Service Development

Contribute to the development and delivery of service strategies and the Clinical Services Business PlanIdentify opportunities for service redesign, innovation and efficiencyIdentify, scope and develop opportunities for new clinical servicesWork with the Digital and Quality Teams to ensure there is clear and high-quality data (quantitative and qualitative) to show how services are progressing towards and agreed visionTaking a clear learning approach to the services you deliver and, with the Heads of Clinical Services and Quality, ensure that all opportunities to learn how services can be improved are responded to rapidly and comprehensivelyWork closely with practices to ensure that they can make the best use of our services for their patientsWorking with system partners to integrate our services and provide seamless care for patients, particularly where services are located with other providersChampion quality improvement across all clinical services as required, working closely with the Head of Quality and the Quality Team.

Financial Management

Take financial responsibility and accountability for services under management including preparing costings, identifying opportunities to streamline and make cost efficiencies and regularly review expenditure and resourcesManage budgets for services under management ensuring services remain profitable and in line with budgets, escalating concerns to the Head of Clinical Services promptly and in a timely fashion

Workforce Development and Line Management

Line Manage other Clinical Services roles including Clinical Service Managers, Clinical Services Coordinators, and Clinical Services Administrators with support from the Head of Clinical Services, the People Team and the Learning and Development LeadIdentify training needs, set objectives, conduct appraisals and 1:1 meetingsLead recruitment, onboarding and induction processes for new Clinical Services roles as requiredApply ABCs policies and procedures for managing performance, conduct sickness reviews, investigations and disciplinaries as requiredFoster a supportive, inclusive and collaborative team environment
