Job summary
Dulwich Satellite Unit is located at Tessa Jowell Health Centre. Our unit comprises of diverse team and promotes personal and professional development. You will be involved in assisting the unit manager to drive forward quality patient centred compassionate care as well as assisting and supporting the team to attain efficiency and sustain standards. This is an ideal opportunity for a band 5 nurse to utilise and enhance their mentoring skills, leadership qualities, time management, and independent working.
You will have 2 weeks supernumery and the opportunity to work alongside senior nurses and practice development nurses. You will have your Assessor and Supervisor assigned to you.
As a band 5 staff nurse, you are expected to understand the principle of haemodialysis including connecting and disconnecting patients on haemodialysis. You are required to commence patients on haemodialysis and discontinue treatment in a safely manner as well as lining and priming of haemodialysis machines, troubleshooting complications, data input, stripping the machines. You will also have the opportunity to learn, assessment of fistulas including cannulations.
Main duties of the job
Providing independent holistic care to the patients. Assist and supports the senior nurses in the daily smooth running of the unit. Cleaning of the equipment's like dialysis machines, bed, tables. Lining, priming and stripping of the haemodialysis machines. Monitoring patient observations and documentation of the findings. Report to the senior nurses of any deviation from normal. Supporting and mentoring health care assistants including appraisals. AVF assessments and cannulation. Connecting and disconnecting to the machine for AVF and AVG patients only. Prioritise patient care based on individual needs Daily checking of the water plant systems document and report appropriately. Involved in patient educations and support any ongoing research studies in the unit. Involved in assessment, planning and evaluation of care. Maintain effective communication within the team at all times. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. To ensure and promote the trust policies and protocols are adhered. To participate in team meetings as required by your team leader. To ensure your competency document are signed and dated.

To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times. To demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of any patients receiving treatment in the ward/ department. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on the Ward on an ongoing basis, co-ordinating the care given by all members of the clinical team. To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the patients condition, promptly report changes and instigate remedial action as appropriate. To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives. To ensure that patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate information, and ensure that this is presented in a way that they understand. To ensure that Clinical Guidelines are implemented and to be actively involved in auditing practice in conjunction with Line Manager and practice development staff. To ensure that practice is evidence based and with support assist in the development of policies and protocols within the clinical area. To uphold high standards of nursing care, according to existing policies and standards. To support the Ward Managers and Modern Matron in processes of continuous quality improvement, formally evaluating standards of care and assisting in the implementation of changes in the light of such findings. To contribute to the health education of patients and their families, ensuring that all patients receive appropriate advice and support to maintain a healthy lifestyle. To actively support the implementation of the Trust nursing strategy and uphold the ethos of the local philosophy.

Education and Qualifications Essential
1st level Registered General Nurse with active UK NMC Registration Further professional studies relevant to the clinical area Mentorship programme or equivalent teaching qualification
