If so, then this Band 4 Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor position in the Trauma and Orthopaedics Team at Treliske, will be ideal for you.
Main duties of the job
To support Occupational Therapists in the assessment and treatment of patients and the day-to-day running of the therapy environment.
To accept patients referred by a Therapist, and carry as own patient caseload. Treataccording to set treatment protocols,
Work unsupervised regularly, reporting back patient progress and informing the therapist of any problems.
To undertake the assessment of patients, using investigative and analytical skills. To use clinical reasoning, to formulate treatment programmes.
To liaise with the therapist as necessary regarding patient care.
To work unsupervised on the wards, providing patients and their carers with advice/teaching exercise programs. To assess patient's environmental circumstances, and consider provision of appropriate equipment and support.
To support patients, carers, staff and relatives by providing education and advice as appropriate under the instruction of therapists.
To participate in& support the provision of assessment and clinical treatment programmes following professional assessment and guidance. These may relate to all areas of mobility, transfers, personal & daily living, upper limb, cognitive, visual, perceptual, and sensory rehabilitation.

Person Specification
Knowledge Essential
Good general education up to GCSE or equivalent. NVQ Level lll or BTEC national diploma in appropriate area or equivalent relevant qualification such as or sports science / health related degree. Shows a commitment to working at RCHT
Desirable
Evidence of recent study, e.g. Anatomy and Physiology ITEC, Access to Occupational/ physiotherapy Therapy course etc.
Experience Essential
Comprehensive experience of working in an acute healthcare setting. Minimum of 12 months experience of working as an Occupational Therapy technician/assistant Experience of managing an independent caseload
Desirable
Experience of post-operative bracing, gait education and post-op exercise programs
Skills Essential
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to communicate with patients with impaired communication abilities Computer skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade patients Good organisational skills. Ability to work on own initiative and to manage own caseload. Able to undertake the physical nature of the post including moving and handling patients and equipment, Willing to undertake any necessary training and to participate in the training of others

Able to travel to other sites and to undertake duties such as home visits/
