About this role

Job summary

This is a Bank position to cover Maternity Leave for 6 months.

To contribute to an efficient and accurate pharmacy service to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines throughout at SHSC NHS Foundation Trust.

There is a requirement to be confident and able to work with service users, carers, and healthcare professionals internally and other organisations to ensure the service users are safe with their medicines.

Under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Chief Pharmacist and the Senior Pharmacy Technicians, the post holder will perform whatever duties are reasonable and necessary to achieve the job purpose and overall safe provision of pharmacy services throughout the Trust.

Main duties of the job

To work closely with the senior pharmacy technician, lead pharmacist and pharmacy team in providing pharmacy services to SHSC providing the following services:

Participate in the technical support necessary for the safe and effective dispensing of prescriptions including inpatient, outpatient and discharge medications and the distribution of medicines to the designated units of SHSC under the supervision of a senior technician and pharmacist.

Undertake the SHSC system of ward top up safely and effectively to designated units.

Provide safe and effective supply of pharmaceuticals to units within SHSC and other designated units outside the Trust.

If eligible, and subject to appropriate training, to undertake accuracy checking of prescriptions.

Participate in early morning, late night, weekend, and bank holiday rota.

Give advice to staff and service users, providing information on local guidelines and policies ensuring they remain up to date.

To order any medicines required for service users and ward stocks.

To maintain continued professional development (CPD) as required by the GPhC or other registered body.

Willing to travel to all sites at SHSC Dispensing and checking of Clinical Trials. Subject to the provision of appropriate training, participate in the provision of phlebotomy services to SHSC, including training in using and operating the POCHI machine.

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Previous and recent experience of working in a pharmacy Effective communication Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Friendly and self-motivated Professional approach Ability to follow set procedures Have good problem-solving skills Numerate and literate Trustworthy and reliable Good interpersonal skill Able to drive and have access to a vehicle

Desirable

Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy Experience of work involving patient contact Computer literacy Be willing to participate in the provision of phlebotomy services to SHSC, including training in using and operating the POCHI machine.

Training and Qualifications Essential

Hold a recognised pharmacy technician qualification e.g. NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services and BTEC level 3 in pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent Registration with GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician

Accuracy checking qualification An indication of CPD

Experience Essential

Previous pharmacy experience

Desirable

Having worked with the CMM/EPMA computer system Have experience of computerised pharmacy systems and an understanding of IT systems in current pharmacy use Previous hospital pharmacy experience

Able to demonstrate a conscientious and methodical way of working. Able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changes in working practice. Able to demonstrate a willingness to travel to undertake work in other Trust units throughout the city. An understanding of working with mentally ill clients
