Engineering Manager III
Job Summary: General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
GA-ASI has an exciting new opportunity for a Flight Technologies Tools and Support Engineering Manager in Poway, CA. The engineering manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the systems and business processes of the Flight Technologies department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Manage and mentor a team of engineers with a focus on the flight sciences (GNC, aerodynamics, flight performance, and CFD) and specifically the tools that enable their work. • Manage the compute resources of the department, including maintenance and upgrades. • Manage the capital expenses for the department. • Manage software licensing for the department. • Oversee resource planning for the department. • Oversee department bid and proposal work. • Develop and maintain the roadmap for investment in the tools used by the department, to include codes developed internally by the team as well as COTS software packages. • Recruit, hire, retain, and develop engineers with broad flight sciences backgrounds that align with the development roadmap. • Closely coordinate resources with other department leaders as needed

Job Qualifications: • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education. • Proven experience in a supervisory or management role. • Project and task management experience, including resource planning and bid and proposal tracking. • Extensive experience in aerodynamics, flight performance, CFD, or GNC and knowledgeable about the other areas. • Experience with flight testing of UAS. • In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations and standards. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Proficient with C Programming language, Python, and Matlab Auto-coding. • Occasional travel to the company flight test facilities is required. • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with GA-ASI aircraft, specifically Gray Eagle variants, Predator variants. • Experience with various aircraft types, including both unmanned and manned fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
