This position reports to the Manager of Space Vehicle Systems Engineering. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You’ll Do: • With the Manager of Space Vehicle Systems Engineering, develop the vision and strategy for the SV & Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineers within the SV SEIT organization. The SV SEIT organization includes the following capabilities: Space Vehicle & Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineers/Chief Engineers, Space Vehicle Architects, Space Vehicle New Business and Strategy, Guidance Navigation & Control Engineers, Propulsion Engineers, Electrical Power System Engineers, Command & Data Handling Engineers, RF Communications Engineers, Fault Management Engineers, Simulator Engineers, System Test Engineers. • Provide leadership and functional direction to teams of engineers, the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and leaders across the Space and Mission Systems Sector. • Lead and manage the team of SV & Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineers and develop a robust employee development capability. • Provide career growth and development opportunities for employees. • Provide functional management for the SV & Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineers Section, including employee recognition, and performance appraisals. • Be responsible for new business development of SV & Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineers team efforts across our pursuits from the mission-level to the subsystems across missions, space vehicles, payloads, and spacecraft buses. • Be an integral member of the Space Vehicle Engineering leadership team. • Grow the SV & Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineering capabilities and capacity to achieve the goals of the business. • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. • Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Short Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
Required Skills and Education: • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience. • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education. • Experience in space-based systems engineering. • Experience in technology management and strategic direction preferred. • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and detail oriented. • Excellent critical thinking skills. • Drive for results and executional excellence. • Comfortability interacting with colleagues at all levels of the organization. • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams. • Comfortable operating at a fast pace. • Team building skills. • Organizational skills. • Budgeting/cost estimating experience preferred. • Excellent customer service, accountability, professionalism, and interpersonal skill set. • Excellent communication and listening skills. • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all employees can thrive. #LI-MA2A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. Preferred Skills and Education: • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance preferred.
