BAE Systems, one of the world’s leading defense contractors, is hiring a Safety, Health, and Environment (SH&E) Director for their Combat Vehicle (CV) sites as part of its Combat Mission Systems (CMS) business. Under direction of the CMS business SH&E Director, the CV SH&E Director is responsible for integrating SH&E into the operations of the CV sites. The CV SH&E Director will provide strategy and leadership, ensuring site compliance with regulatory and company standards, implementing SH&E directives, mentoring site SH&E staff, improving performance, and driving continual improvement. The ideal candidate would be equally as strong in all disciplines – Safety, Health, and Environment - as well as have a proven track record of being seen as a successful collaborative in achieving results.

Remote position; preferred proximity to a CMS site and/or major airport.

Responsibilities: • Manages a team of SHE professionals across multiple sites within the CMS business (Aiken, Anniston, Elgin, Phoenix, York, as well as multiple field service operations). • Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with operational leadership and other key stakeholder functions; engages in operations and facilities planning processes to ensure that SH&E considerations are proactively incorporated into operations (management of change). • Participates on various Site, Business, and Sector-wide teams as both a subject matter expert as well as a representative for the Business. • Keeps leadership informed of activities in support of SHE programs and changes in conditions which could impact established hazard controls and production in general (e.g., quality, schedule, and budget). • Serves as the technical representative of the SHE program, managing activities, priorities, and risks. • Reviews reports, testing results, and provides remedies. • Communicates effectively with stakeholders, management, regulators, and other external or third parties, demonstrating a high degree of leadership in safety processes and company values. • Remains agile with a sense of urgency as the environment is dynamic with many entities working together all with a common goal in mind. • Develops and tracks annual budgets. • Coordinates project tasks with SHE staff and contractors, addressing proposed activities, resources, and preparation for safe operations. • Ensures that systems are in place to comply with corporate SH&E reporting requirements. • Coordinates and/or conducts various Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Health (IH/OH) programs required at the site – trained to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for environmental and physical hazards and stressors. • Coordinates and directs environmental activities, functions, and standards, including all required environmental records, reports, and permit applications across all media (e.g. water, solid waste, air, etc.). • Analyzes and interprets SH&E incident data to identify trends and formulate plans and strategies to address priority SH&E issues. • Works with stakeholders to lead and coordinate investigations in response to incidents and ensure that corrective and preventative measures are taken in a timely manner. • In conjunction with site leaders, establishes goals, targets, and action plans to ensure continual improvement and routinely monitors progress against plans. • Develops and maintains positive relationships with regulators and other external stakeholders. • Develops employees and performs all duties associated with supervision such as hiring, training, evaluating, counseling, and discipline. • Conducts audits, briefings/meetings, as required.

Required Skills and Education: • Must be sufficiently flexible to support up to 50% travel within the US • Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience (e.g., safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental management)or equivalent experience • Experience in Safety, Health, and Environment (SH&E) • Experience in chemical management, ergonomics, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, noise, hazard analysis, incident investigations, and/or exposure controls for previously referenced hazards • Knowledge of current terminology and a broad understanding of local, State, and Federal regulations • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and customers in a fast-paced environment with a high level of detail and quality • Must possess strong initiative and be able to effectively set own schedule based on competing demands • Proven ability to make independent as well as collaborative decisions in the scope of daily duties • Must have exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills • Demonstrated computer and MS Office skills
