About Lihir Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. We are seeking experienced electrical professionals to join our Asset Management team as Advisor, RME Delegate.
As Part of Our Team, You Will Reporting to the Supervisor, Registered Mine Electrician, you will provide electrical governance, compliance and assurance across the Lihir operation, ensuring installations comply with Newmont standards and statutory requirements. Key Responsibilities • Conduct field critical control checks • Verify isolation and risk controls • Lead electrical incident investigations • Review licences and authorise electrical workers • Audit competencies and compliance • Review notifications of energisation • Complete Certificates of Compliance • Support MOC assessments and standards reviews • Liaise across electrical departments • Ensure all work meets AS/NZS and site standards
Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role ABOUT YOU Essential: • Cert III Electrotechnology • PNG or Australian/NZ Electrical Licence Preferred: • RME Certification • HV Switching • LVR/CPR • EEHA TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE • PNG Mining Safety Act • AS/NZS 3000 • AS/NZS 3007 • AS/NZS 4871 • AS/NZS 3012 • AS/NZS 60079 • High Voltage (HV) systems and protection
Your Work Environment This role is based at Newmont’s Lihir Island site within the Asset Management team, supporting Fixed Plant Maintenance and Reliability. It is an individual contributor position focused on fieldwork, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.
For this opportunity, Lihir offers a 22:20 FIFO roster from a range of designated marshalling points. FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, with en-suited, air-conditioned rooms equipped with a mini fridge, TV, and Wi-Fi. Healthy meals are provided at the mess, and the wet mess offers a relaxed social setting with pool and darts. Recreational facilities include an on-site gym and basketball court, while paid members can enjoy the Lihir Sports and Social Club, featuring a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, a restaurant/bar, and a deck with stunning Pacific Ocean views. A café and deli are also available for takeaway coffee, snacks, and groceries.
