Role Purpose As an Ocean Freight Pricing Senior Specialist, you will lead the development and execution of competitive, market-aligned pricing for ocean freight products. You will collaborate with Trade, Sales, Procurement, and Tender Management to drive profitability, optimize cost structures, and support sustainable business growth. Your deep market insight and strategic thinking will contribute directly to local pricing excellence. Key Activities
• Strategic Pricing: Develop and implement pricing in line with corporate objectives, market dynamics, and trade lane development goals • Tender Management: Lead local tender pricing initiatives, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and timely delivery; provide input to global tender requests • Spot quotes: ensure prompt and competitive response to spot quote requests which cannot be generated automatically out of the quotation system • Market Intelligence: Monitor carrier rate developments, capacity trends, and competitor behaviors to provide actionable insights to commercial stakeholders • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary pricing advisor to Sales, and local customer services/ service delivery offering tailored solutions to maximize win rates and margins • Cost Optimization: Negotiate favorable local terms and improve cost on all local charges, incl. but not limited to origin/destination handling, pickup and delivery fees, demurrage, detention and storage in collaboration with Trade Management, Procurement and ICC (if applicable) • Data Governance: Maintain competitive, complete and up-to-date rates, tariffs, surcharges, and transit time data in pricing systems (e.g., MTS, RMS, CW1 DDS/DDH) • Dispute Resolution: Support service delivery in the timely resolution of cost and sell related disputes • Compliance: Ensure FMC compliance through timely and accurate NRA issuance and acceptance • Performance Monitoring: Analyze pricing performance, margins, and conversion rates to continuously improve pricing and tender outcomes; ensure adherence to the global pricing and quoting processes • Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior pricing team members, sharing best practices and fostering a culture of pricing excellence Typical Measurement Criteria/ KPIs Track internal KPIs such as:
• Achieve target gross profit margin on ocean freight quotations, tenders, and shipments. • Increase win rate of spot quotes and tender submissions. • Deliver timely responses to spot quotes and tender requests. Management Responsibility
• Individual contributor without direct responsibility for leading others • Work is typically very independent Skills / Qualifications Education Level/ Certification Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/qualification in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or a related field Expected Years of Experience(Minimum)
• Minimum 2-3 years of related experience in pricing or trade management within the freight forwarding or shipping industry Skills
• In-depth understanding of the global freight forwarding and ocean carrier landscape • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills • Proven ability to lead pricing efforts for complex tenders and high-value opportunities • Advanced Excel and pricing system knowledge (e.g., MTS, QuoteShop, etc.) • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities • Results-driven, detail-oriented, and commercially minded • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced, cross-cultural environment
