About this role
Sr. Product Engineer - Overlander Campers
Reports to: CEO
Function: Design/Product Engineering
Scope: Production Line #1
Role Purpose
Serve as the technical owner for the Overlander motorhome product family, including white-label rental motorhome programs. Own the product lifecycle from concept through launch, sustaining engineering, compliance, field performance, and end-of-life while remaining a hands-on engineer.
What You Own
Technical product ownership for Overlander motorhomes and related white-label programs.
• Product lifecycle, architecture, NPD, technical roadmap, and major engineering decisions.
• Motorhome/body-to-chassis integration, weight and packaging decisions, and major vehicle-system interfaces.
• Applicable product compliance and certification, coordinating electrical and quality requirements.
• Own ERP and CAD model readiness for product release, ensuring engineering models, drawings, BOMs, part data, revisions, and released configurations are complete, synchronized, and production-ready.
• Engineering release, product-level change approval, validation requirements, and technical BOM integrity.
• Technical leadership and development of the Overlander Design Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead new product and major derivative development from requirements through production release.
• Develop and review CAD models, layouts, interfaces, drawings, specifications, and prototypes as needed.
• Coordinate chassis, body, structural, plumbing, HVAC, interior, electrical, and installed-equipment integration.
• Own technical resolution of production, field, warranty, and supplier issues affecting the product.
• Drive product improvements in reliability, manufacturability, weight, cost, serviceability, and customer experience.
• Run brand-segment technical project plans, design reviews, risk reviews, and engineering priorities.
• Ensure released engineering data, BOMs, and changes are accurate and controlled.
Cross-Functional Responsibilities
• Operations and Manufacturing Engineering on DFM, process readiness, line launch, cost, and production issues.
• Quality on validation plans, NPD quality gates, root cause, corrective actions, and field/warranty learning.
• Supply Chain on supplier technical requirements, component selection, alternates, and technical issue resolution.
• Service, Sales, and Marketing on field feedback, customer requirements, product changes, and launch readiness.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, product design engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent directly relevant experience considered.
• Typically 7+ years of progressive product engineering experience, including ownership of complex physical products through development and sustaining phases.
• Strong 3D CAD, drawing, GD&T, BOM, configuration/change-control, prototype, and production-support capability.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical work without relying on a large program-management organization.
• Hands-on problem solver comfortable moving between CAD, prototypes, suppliers, testing, and the production floor.
• Experience with RVs, motorhomes, specialty vehicles, automotive upfitters, commercial vehicles, or similar integrated vehicle products strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of vehicle/chassis integration, weight ratings, installed systems, and regulatory/compliance considerations is highly desirable.
What Success Looks Like
• New Overlander products launch on time with clear technical ownership and disciplined engineering release.
• Products meet defined requirements, compliance obligations, validation targets, and production-readiness expectations.
• Production and field issues are resolved quickly at root cause and recurrence declines.
• ERP product data, CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and released configurations are aligned and ready before production release.
• Engineering changes, BOMs, and technical documentation remain accurate and controlled.
• The Overlander engineering pod operates independently, cross-functionally, and with strong accountability.
