About this role
Function: The MLL StudyPAL (Study Partner for Acquiring Language) will provide supplemental language support to students classified as Multilingual Learners or students who have recently exited from programming classes and are currently being monitored for progress. MLL StudyPALs will work with MLLs in one-to-one, small group settings or classroom settings. MLL StudyPALS will work with students to develop content vocabulary in English, practice applying reading and writing skills and strategies in English, and help students construct meaning from content. The MLL StudyPAL (Study Partner for Acquiring Language): Supplemental Support Provider reports to the classroom teacher and the Director of Multilingual Learners Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Participate in professional development with the Director of Multilingual Learners. Collaborate with the classroom teacher to design a program to assist Multilingual Learners in the acquisition of English with a particular emphasis on reading and writing skills and strategies, and in the acquisition of content knowledge through translation and tutoring in the first language of the student, as feasible. Determine a schedule for the delivery of services with classroom teachers. Deliver services according to the schedule determined. Required Qualifications: The applicant must have completed at least two years of post-secondary education, with a majority of coursework in English, Psychology, or a related field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. The applicant must have experience working with Multilingual learner adolescents or young adults and/or experience working with students of diverse backgrounds. Bilingual in Spanish/English or Portuguese/English preferred; working knowledge of additional languages preferred
