About this role
Position Summary The Lead Custodian serves as the primary daytime point of contact for building operations at Sharon Public Schools. This role ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment by coordinating custodial activities, responding to operational needs, supporting staff and vendors, and overseeing building safety and daily logistics. • Full-time, 12-month position
• Minimum 40 hours per week
• Covered under the SCU Contract

Key Responsibilities Daily Operations & Building Support
• Serve as the main daytime contact for spills, messes, urgent cleaning needs, and operational needs.
• Coordinate responses to staff requests, classroom needs, and building concerns throughout the school day.
• Support custodial staff performing scheduled cleaning tasks.
• Ensure building readiness for daily school operations and special events.
Vendor, Delivery & Visitor Coordination
• Receive and distribute deliveries.
• Meet and coordinate with vendors and contractors working onsite.
• Communicate operational needs and ensure proper access and supervision.
Safety & Security
• Open the building daily and ensure doors, windows, and lights are properly.
• Check exit doors and panic hardware for proper operation.
• Assist with fire safety checks and understand the building's alarm system.
• Maintain awareness of water shutoffs and electrical panels.
Grounds & Snow Response
• Oversee grounds conditions and respond to issues as needed.
• Coordinate and perform snow removal tasks including shoveling, sanding, and equipment operation (if trained).
Maintenance & Work Orders
• Perform minor repairs (e.g., door hinges, hand railings, signage).
• Report major repairs or damage immediately and submit work orders through OperationsHero.
• Monitor building conditions and address issues proactively.
Emergency Response
• Participate in building emergency procedures and district training.
• Remain available during authorized building use and emergency situations until relieved.
Operational Duties
• Respond to radio calls throughout the school day.
• Support lunch duties including preparation and cleanup.
• Maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies.
• Awareness of the building's custodial supply budget including submitting supply orders.
• Understand basic HVAC and Building Management System (BMS) operations.
Leadership & Training
• Train and supervise custodial staff in cleaning procedures, PPE use, equipment care, and building security systems.
• Complete disciplinary write-ups when required.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and crouching.
• Occasional climbing and exposure to hot, cold, wet, or humid conditions.
• Ability to perform manual tasks requiring coordination and dexterity.
