About this role
The Special Education Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and physical support to students with disabilities in a variety of settings, including general education classrooms, special education classrooms, and other school environments. This position focuses on assisting students with significant academic, behavioral, or functional needs, ensuring that they can access and participate in educational programs safely and successfully.
• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Support students' academic learning through one-on-one or small group instruction under the direction of the teacher.
• Assist students with daily living activities such as toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene, as required by their IEP.
• Support inclusion by helping students participate in general education settings and activities.
• Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation to share with the supervising teacher and IEP team.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with district policy and federal law (FERPA, IDEA).
• Supervise students during transitions, recess, and lunch, ensuring safety at all times.
• Use assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and specialized instructional materials as directed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.
