Job Details TITLE: Support Staff Nurse REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Student Services AVAILABLE: ASAP TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary in accordance with PESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: To assist the Certified School Nurse in providing health services to the districts school-age children. Administer first aid and medications to students under the supervision of the certified school nurse; complete necessary clerical tasks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with the maintenance of student health records and all required reports.

• Complete the clerical tasks for mandated examinations and screenings.

• Administer immediate first-aid care to students, staff and visitors in accordance with the standing orders from the District's Medical Directors. Complete and record required information regarding care given.

• Complete the basic required yearly screenings, including, but not limited to, administering vision screenings and measuring and weighing each student and advising the Certified School Nurse of those students needing further vision evaluation or those who have significant weight fluctuation.

• In an emergency situation, contact the parent/guardian and call an ambulance in accordance with the standing orders of the School Medical Directors and the Certified School Nurse.

• Accompany an ill or injured person to the hospital when assigned by the Certified School Nurse or Building Principal.

• Administer medications in accordance with school district policies, procedures and standing orders as approved by the School Medical Directors and the Board of School Directors and maintain records of those medications administered so long as (i) proper parental/guardian authorization has been submitted to the Certified School Nurse and is being maintained in the student's medical file, and (ii) the Certified School Nurse is available for consultation/supervision in the dispensing of the medication.

• Maintain and assure the confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the health of students and staff.

• Maintain an orderly Health Room, including, but not limited to, the desk area and all bulletin boards.

• Participate in staff development programs as required by the Nursing Coordinator, Building Principal and/or Certified School Nurse.

• Assume other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Certified School Nurse and/or Nursing Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma.

• Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Nurse or Pennsylvania licensure as a Practical Nurse with a medication certificate.

• At least three (3) years experience in a medical environment.

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate effectively with children and their parents. Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality. Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PAPERWORK : Must possess current PA RN or LPN license. Clearances must be within 12 months and TB must be within 90 days of hire.

LIGHT WORK: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

MEDIUM WORK: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

HEAVY WORK: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 75 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

VERY HEAVY WORK: The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
