About this role

Basic Function Assist in the preparation and service of food; set up assigned serving areas; perform cashiering duties for student and staff meal service; and maintain clean, safe, and sanitary food service facilities. Distinguishing Characteristics The School Nutrition Assistant supports food production, service, and point-of-sale operations in a school kitchen. Positions may include lead responsibilities as assigned. Representative Duties

• Prepare, cook, and assemble food items such as sandwiches, burgers, salads, meats, fruits, vegetables, and baked goods

• Ensure proper food quality, quantity, and timely service; complete production records

• Set up and stock serving lines, beverages, and supplies

• Portion and serve meals according to procedures

• Monitor and record food temperatures per regulations

• Operate point-of-sale system, process transactions, and reconcile funds

• Count and claim meals; maintain required records

• Assist with transporting food to campus or district locations

• Maintain inventory and notify supervisors of supply needs

• Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils

• Store food properly and dispose of waste

• Operate kitchen equipment including ovens, mixers, slicers, and dishwashers

• Assist in training new employees and student workers

• Support food preparation, baking, and service activities

• Perform related duties as assigned

• Prepare and serve food in compliance with health regulations

• Lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods

Education and Experience Any combination equivalent to high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law and one year food service experience. Licenses and Requirements

• Completion of training for beginning school food service personnel per 702 KAR 6:045

• Compliance with annual training requirements under 7 CFR Parts 210 and 235

• Food Handler Certification as required by the district
