About this role

Job Title: Nurse Aide Reports to: District Nurse Evaluated by: District Nurse Job Goal: The goal of this position is to performs the day-to-day activities of providing student health and health related services according to District policies and procedures under the direction of the building administrator & District Nurse, in consultation with other school personnel. The Nurse Aide may carry out tasks delegated by the District Nurse, including but not limited to giving medications and administering first aid, monitoring students for safety, assisting with students' personal care, but does not make decisions that require the judgment of a licensed nurse. Essential Requirements: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.

• Follow verbal and written instructions.

• Follow established guidelines procedures as outlined by the District Nurse and Building Principal.

• Ability to work independently.

• Establish rapport with students, staff and parents.

• Demonstrates understanding of and follows universal (standard) precautions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Medication administration.

• Provide basic first aid or minor medical procedures as needed and specified by RN & contacts parents when indicated.

• Evaluates ill or injured students and notify parents as needed.

• Provide care in emergency situation.

• Assists with updating and maintaining health files and computer records (e.g., health problems, emergency numbers).

• Maintains health room log and health-related documentation (e.g., minor head injury letter, accident form, etc.).

• Assists with health and health related screenings (e.g. pediculosis, vision & hearing, etc.) and appropriate follow-up.

• Assists with personal care, monitoring students for safety and supports communication needs of students.

• Performs health and health-related tasks as required by principal and duties delegated by other appropriate health and health related professionals.

• May be assigned to support the health and health related needs of a specific student.

• Perform and maintain basic clerical duties.

• Maintain clean & hygienic work environment.

Qualifications / Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding, and or Testing Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Current CPR / First Aid Certification.

Physical Demands: Between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and 10 pounds on a frequent basis, occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching and fine motor activity, frequently sitting, standing, walking, balancing, reaching at desk and floor level, firm and simple grasping. The work requires constant seeing, hearing, and talking. Work Environment: Work is performed in office, classroom and/or other educational setting. FLSA Status: Non-exempt Days / Terms of Employment: 160 Days / Nine-month position. Salary to be determined by the School Board of Education.
