About this role

Job summary

To provide full PA and secretarial support to the Chemical Pathologists at Stoke Mandeville and High Wycombe for duties associated with the Lipid Clinic and also duties to the clinical head of the Biochemistry Department. The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, other members of staff, consultants and general practitioners is essential, as is the ability to deal politely and sensitively with patients and their relatives.

This is a busy role and the post holder will need to manage their own workload in an environment of frequent interruptions and conflicting demands. The post holder must therefore have the ability to rapidly assimilate information, prioritise needs and respond in an appropriate and timely manner.

Main duties of the job

To provide a complete secretarial service, including audio transcription of medical dictation and ensuring appropriate follow up action is taken. Deal with queries, either by telephone or face to face from patients regarding attendance at the lipid clinic. Liaise with medical records regarding the operation of the Lipid clinic. Other general secretarial duties including filing and photocopying.

Sort and return clinic notes to the medical records department after each clinic.

Arrange diary appointments for company representatives etc for the consultant chemical pathologists. Use the hospital Care Record Service (CRS)/Care Flow for clinic functions in line with the trust policy and procedures, including taking new referrals and booking patients in, also follow up appointments after each clinic.

This is a part post working 15 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9-2pm

EXPERIENCE Essential

Experience working as a Medical Secretary Experience with the processing of data in databases. Previous experience of working within the NHS, GP or private practice Experience of dealing with and managing sensitive issues. Ability to touch and audio type

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE Essential

Excel and database processing skills Keyboard skills Knowledge of CRS Knowledge of Data Protection Act 1984 Demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills at all levels to enable liaison with patients, relatives and multi-disciplinary team members, and to enable management and co-ordination of diaries.

oAbility to work flexibly, if required covering other office staff absences.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING Essential

Educated to GCSE Level with English Language, Maths and IT skills Trained to use all Microsoft Office package Patient Administration System Training
