Role Summary

To work within the policy framework of the hospice in its provision of Specialist Palliative Care and be responsible for the development, maintenance and communication of quality initiatives, supporting and promoting services to enable people to have equal access to good quality, person centred health care.

To support incident management and investigations, quality improvement and learning.

Assist in the maintenance and development of the hospices compliance with CQC regulations in regard to legislation and best practice

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will:

1.Provide the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with quality monitoring information required to keep the hospices risk profile rated as low risk.

2.Produce regular reports which demonstrate service quality, clinical outcome measures and statutory compliance in support of the Quality and Governance processes and external stakeholders.

3.To analyse incident reporting, using root cause analysis, identifying any trends and making recommendations for improving practice, ensuring lessons learned are shared with the organisation to reduce the likelihood of repetition.

4.Keep updated regarding the Quality Improvement agenda in health care, making recommendations for the hospice to adopt.

5.Monitor and follow up outstanding actions with those responsible to ensure closure against matters arising or the forward planner as appropriate.

6.Monitor and interpret changes to legislation and national statutory guidance.

7.Support the Senior Management Team in coordinating, producing and compiling the required evidence and reports for a range of regulatory bodies (i.e. Integrated Care Board , Care Quality Commission).

8.Support the CEO in preparation of evidence and documentation for CQC inspections and engagement meetings.

9.Work closely with the SIRO and Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure data protection compliance.

10.Support the CEO with the compilation of regular reports including the Annual Quality Accounts and other statutory reports.

11.Work with the CEO to develop a rolling programme of service outcome measures which captures the effectiveness of Hospice services and which supports the requirements of the CQC and other Statutory Bodies.

12.Work closely with the Director of Clinical Services to implement, monitor and report on patient safety incidents and improvements

13.Coordinate Hospice Audit Calendars and associated processes of auditing Hospice departments.

14.Organise and manage own workload, ensuring it reflects on the core components of your role in a manner that ensures quality and reduces risk.

15.Participate in relevant sub-committee meetings and associated work.

16.Develop Hospice policies

Although this is a comprehensive job description, you may be required to undertake other duties assigned by your Line Manager.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

The post holder will:

1.Participate in the Hospice Appraisal system.

2. Maintain high professional standards and to continue own personal and professional development.

3.Assist in teaching and supervision of other members of staff and volunteers.

4.Participate in the orientation of new staff.

5.Attend all mandatory training/update sessions.

VOLUNTEERS

Dr Kershaws Hospice is generously supported through its active volunteers who work alongside employees of the Hospice, across all departments, helping fulfil the needs of the services.

As part of all roles at the Hospice, it is expected that all post holders commit to assisting and supporting volunteers to perform their roles to the best of their ability. In addition, it may be required of the post holder to act as a volunteer lead if identified with the Volunteer Co-ordinator, as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Typing/word processing or equivalent GCSE grade A-C English or equivalent RSA level III or equivalent

Desirable

NVQ Level 3 in administration or equivalent

Experience Essential

Experience of working in an office and healthcare environment or relevant experience Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage time and prioritise workload effectively Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels Ability to make decisions and implement changes. Excellent IT skills across a broad range of platforms An ability to provide, receive convey and present information in a clear way Able to work on a number of projects simultaneously Strong teamwork ethic Prioritise workloads and meet deadlines In-depth experience of Microsoft packages: especially Word and Excel Spreadsheets and databases Working to demanding and changing deadlines Good verbal and written communication skills.
