Job summary
We are looking to recruit a pooled receptionist within the Maternity and Obstetrics department here at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. This is a permanent contract, which will requite flexibility in working pattern to ensure the service is covered 7 days a week and could involve working any time in a 24 hour period. You will be required to support all of our reception teams across the department which includes wards and outpatient reception areas.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a high-quality reception and support service within an inpatient and outpatient setting and as such, will need to be able to communicate well with patients and their relatives, the public and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust. To provide a support service to the technical staff, a versatile approach is essential and the ability to cope with a large number of different tasks simultaneously is a prerequisite of this post. Job description Job responsibilities
To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department. To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arrangingappointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying testrequests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within thedepartment. To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or viathe telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistanceas required. To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them beingcalled for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause forconcern. To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with departmentpolicy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to theappropriate technical staff. To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness forclinical work. To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at therequest of staff within the department. To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the department. To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validatethe patient pathway where appropriate. To liaise with Secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessaryto ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patientattending an outpatient clinic.
