Job description Job responsibilities Job Purpose
Working with a vision of delivering excellence in everything we do, the clinic nurse/ support worker will work in the outpatient environment to support a range of clinical specialities.
You will need to be prepared to perform phlebotomy and perform basic patient observations such as blood pressure and pulse.
The post holder will be based at primary care locations, however, the flexibility to move across additional sites is desirable.
In undertaking this role, all employees are expected to always behave in a way that is consistent with safe clinical practice.
1. To work competently and prepare the clinics for the day in relation to, equipment and supplies required for specific specialties.
2. To coordinate with the multi professional team the smooth running of the clinic.
3. To assist the consultants and chaperone protecting the patients dignity and privacy whilst providing reasonable adjustments when needed.
4. Ensure that company and host policies are complied with for the prevention and control of infection.
5. Take responsibility for ensuring that all specimens or swabs are managed safely and correctly and recorded with attention to detail.
6. Ensure that stock checks are performed and gaps in stock recorded and reported to the company.
7. Assist the company to develop systems for auditing services and comply with request for collection of information for analysis.
8. Contribute to meetings either with the host organisation or internal colleagues to ensure the smooth running of outpatient clinics.
Clinical responsibilities1. Ensure that all documentation is maintained to company standards. Including outcome sheets.
2. Assist the consultant with clinical procedures in clinic and record all appropriate details as necessary for audit trails.
3. To work with the facility provider to ensure that on the day that the environment is suitable, clean, uncluttered, and safe environment for the physical and psychological wellbeing of staff and patients.
4. To be fully up to date with mandatory training and bring to the attention of the lead nurse any further training requirements.
5. To attend all relevant meetings both with the host organisation and within the company to allow for effective service delivery for theatres and outpatients.
6. To work alongside the consultant and manage their clinic in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
7. Maintain and promote effective communication with internal teams and host departmental teams and relevant external stakeholders.
8. To assist the clinical lead for outpatients with the delivery of satellite clinics and those in the host organisations.
Staff education1. To contribute to activities that share the appropriate knowledge, skills & support relevant to outpatient care.
2. Provide alongside the nurse lead effective orientation of new staff, including timely completion of local induction.
Clinical governance1. Assist with complaint and incident reviews and escalate concerns upwards.
2. Observe and comply with the host policies and procedures for Health and Safety ensuring the environment in which you and your staff work is safe, clean, and tidy.
3. Comply with standard infection control precautions to prevent or minimise the spread of micro-organisms and communicable diseases to patients, staff, and the local community.
4. Be compliant with the supporting company and host organisation policies and procedures and contribute to local audit cycle and present findings to the necessary committees if required.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Aptitude Required Experience in either NHS or independent sector in outpatient clinic delivery. Experience desirable in a range of specialities in outpatients. Phlebotomy essential or willing to train. Able to communicate with the consultant team and assist in ENT procedures Assist in the management and control of stock and replenishment. Assist the outpatient lead RN to support wider service delivery if needed Able to contribute to audit and quality performance data to improve services. Excellent interpersonal skills. Written records must either be destroyed or retained in safe custody when no longer required, VDU screens should always be cleared when unattended.
