Job SummaryAbout the Position: Serves as a Medical Supply Technician for the Sterile Processing Department in Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir, VA. Work Schedule: 1st Shift - Monday - Friday, 0645-1515 2nd Shift - Monday -Friday, 1445-2315 3rd Shift - Monday - Friday, 2245-0715 Weekend Days - 0645 - 1915 Weekend Nights - 1845 - 0715 Alternate Schedule Negotiable. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Certifications related to Sterile Processing Preferred: CRCST, CBSPD Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Sterilizing medical supplies and equipment for use in a hospital or operating rooms; 2.) Troubleshooting sterilization equipment and machines using High Level Disinfecting; 3.) Inspecting medical supplies for defects; and 4.) Maintaining medical instrument inventory to ensure daily operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as sterile processing or medical instrument technician. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Major DutiesPrepare surgical instruments and medical equipment using High Level Disinfection (HLD).Assemble surgical instruments based on standard operating procedures.Operate sterilization equipment.Maintain established supply levels and rotation of supplies.Perform testing on equipment for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.Utilize the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations.
