Reports to: Private Lessons Manager - Niseko

Direct Reports: None

Operational Direction: Senior Lessons Manager

Scope: Training Delivery, Instructor Development and Niseko Snowsports Supervisory Coverage

Position Type: Seasonal Hourly Position, hours variable depending on business, between 30 to 40 hours per week

Wages:

Hourly: From ¥2,384 per hour to ¥2,850 per hour, or

Monthly From:¥466,597 to ¥557,197

Seasonal Estimate: From: ¥2,532,562 to ¥2,995,188

Travel Allowance ¥100,000 reimbursed on actual flight cost

The Role:

The Snowsports Supervisor - Niseko is the key operational support to the Private Lessons Manager and helps lead the daily delivery of Private Lessons, Premium Privates and Resort Guiding.

The role provides day-to-day instructor supervision, supports allocation and schedule changes, maintains a visible on-snow leadership presence, helps resolve guest and operational issues and supports instructor coaching and development.

When the Private Lessons Manager is absent or delegates responsibility, the Supervisor leads the department's daily operation within agreed authority and provides a clear handover when the Manager returns.

The Private Lessons Manager retains overall ownership of department staffing, rosters, people management, business performance, product standards and significant decisions.

The Private Lessons Supervisor - Niseko is accountable for:

• Reliable daily support to Private Lessons operations

• Clear instructor supervision, allocation and day-of communication

• Safe, consistent and high-quality private lesson delivery

• Strong instructor coaching, feedback and team support

• Professional guest issue resolution within delegated authority

• Effective manager cover and clear handovers when required

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Daily Operations and Manager Support

• Support the Private Lessons Manager with the daily delivery of Private Lessons, Premium Privates and Resort Guiding.

• Review bookings, guest needs, instructor availability, qualifications and known operational issues.

• Support daily instructor allocation and make reasonable day-of schedule changes within the approved staffing plan.

• Monitor instructor capacity and availability and identify opportunities to improve utilisation or support additional sales.

• Lead staff line-up, daily briefings, meeting-point coordination and other routine operational requirements when assigned.

• Escalate significant staffing, guest, safety or operational matters to the Private Lessons Manager.

• Provide a clear handover of key decisions, issues and follow-up actions.

Instructor Supervision and Development

• Provide clear daily direction, support and feedback to Private Lessons instructors.

• Maintain a visible leadership presence and help build a positive, professional and accountable team culture.

• Observe lesson delivery and provide practical coaching to support instructional quality and guest experience.

• Support onboarding, briefings and staff-development activities with the Private Lessons Manager and Training team.

• Recognise strong performance and identify development needs or recurring concerns.

• Document relevant feedback and provide it to the Private Lessons Manager for ongoing coaching, performance management and formal reviews.

• Support instructors with routine questions, concerns and operational issues and escalate significant people matters appropriately.

Guest Experience and Service Delivery

• Ensure guest goals, preferences, special requirements and important booking information are understood by assigned instructors.

• Work closely with Guest Services to resolve routine guest issues, delays, instructor changes and day-of requests.

• Support investigation and resolution of complaints relating to Private Lessons delivery within delegated authority.

• Escalate significant complaints, refunds or decisions outside delegated authority to the Private Lessons Manager or appropriate manager.

• Monitor lesson delivery and guest feedback and raise recurring service or product issues with the Private Lessons Manager.

Safety and Operational Standards

• Support consistent delivery of approved lesson procedures, resort requirements and Rhythm safety standards.

• Reinforce daily safety expectations through briefings, observation and feedback.

• Respond to incidents, hazards and operational issues within the role's training and authority and follow required escalation procedures.

• Ensure incidents, hazards and near misses are documented and communicated through the appropriate process.

• Support appropriate instructor workload and fatigue management during daily operations.

Cross-Department Staff Support

• Private Lessons instructors may be rostered to other Rides departments according to business demand, qualifications and operational requirements.

• When Private Lessons staff work in another department, the Receiving Manager holds operational authority for that shift or product delivery.

• Share relevant day-to-day feedback with the Private Lessons Manager when staff have worked across departments.

• When staff from another department support Private Lessons, provide clear operational direction within the delegated responsibility of the Private Lessons team.

• Support routine cross-department coordination and escalate significant staffing or priority conflicts to the Private Lessons Manager.

Administration and Department Support

• Support schedule updates, attendance records, lesson notes, payroll inputs and other routine department administration when requested.

• Assist with monitoring instructor utilisation, schedule gaps and operational performance information.

• Support the Private Lessons Manager with preparation for peak periods, team meetings and seasonal priorities.

• Deliver Private Lessons or other approved products when operationally required.

• Support other reasonable department duties that help maintain smooth daily operations.

Manager Cover and Role Boundaries

• During delegated manager cover, lead the daily Private Lessons operation within the priorities, staffing plan and authority provided by the Private Lessons Manager.

• The Supervisor may make routine day-of staffing, allocation and operational adjustments within delegated authority.

• The Private Lessons Manager retains ownership of department rosters, workforce planning, recruitment, formal performance management, business performance, product standards and significant guest or staffing decisions.

• The Niseko Operations Manager retains authority for significant location-wide or cross-department matters outside the Private Lessons Manager's delegated authority.

• The National Training Manager owns training frameworks and priorities; the Head Alpine Trainer and other trainers provide technical training and coaching as assigned.

• Smooth and well-coordinated daily Private Lessons operations

• Clear instructor communication, supervision and support

• Safe and high-quality lesson delivery

• Strong guest satisfaction and effective routine issue resolution

• Useful instructor coaching and feedback provided to the Private Lessons Manager

• Effective day-of instructor allocation and utilisation

• Reliable manager cover and clear handovers

What you need to succeed:

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous supervisory or senior instructor experience within a snowsports school or comparable lesson operation.

• Strong experience delivering private ski or snowboard lessons.

• Experience supporting staff allocation, scheduling or daily lesson operations.

• Minimum Level 2 ski or snowboard instructor qualification, or equivalent; higher certification is preferred.

• Current First Aid certification.

• Valid Japanese or recognised international driver licence.
