Job Summary The Dr. Christopher Loewen Laboratory, in the Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia will be looking to hire a Laboratory Assistant to join the team.
Organizational Status The Laboratory Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Loewen.
Work Performed • Cleans and sterilizes glassware. • Performs laboratory clean up tasks. • Assists in stocking supplies and updating inventory. • Assists in routine sorting of samples. • Prepares media and other simple preparation tasks. • Assist senior laboratory members and PI with simple research support activities as needed. • Attend regular lab meetings. • Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.
Consequence of Error/Judgement Not exercised at this level.
Supervision Received Works under direct supervision, from oral instructions and to established procedures.

Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

High degree of motivation, enthusiasm, organization, and initiative. Ability to work independently and with other lab personnel. Effective oral and written communication. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of experiments/data analysis.
