About this role

Job summary

The postholder will be one of a team of 10 Middle Grades with sessions at both Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals. Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals merged to form a single NHS Trust in 1998. Trauma is primarily carried out on the St. Peter's site. The Ashford site has outpatients and a dedicated orthopaedic ward which is used for joint replacements and other elective surgery. The postholder will participate in the on-call trauma rota.

Main duties of the job

The main duties and responsibilities of the appointee will be:-

To provide Senior Middle Grade cover for all Orthopaedics duties are detailed below including participating in the on-call rota.

To work with the existing Orthopaedics Surgeons across both Ashford and St Peters Hospital to provide an efficient and effective Orthopaedic Service.

To provide inpatients, day case and outpatient care for the patients requiring elective and emergency Orthopaedic surgery, in accordance with the Trust contractual obligations

To adopt a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your care and in partnership with other colleagues working in the speciality for the proper function of the Department

The Clinical Fellow would undertake to ensure that clinical audit was an ongoing programme and that agreed actions required as indicated from audit were implemented

Job description Job responsibilities

The post-holder will be required to be a non-resident on-call in rotation with the other SpRs. Office accommodation and secretarial support is provided. The Middle Grades in the department are expected to arrange and cover each others duties and on- call commitments during periods of absence. The post-holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. Qualifications Essential

GMC Registration MRCS ATLS

Desirable

FRCS (Orth) or equivalent

Experience Essential

Previous experience in Middle Grade Orthopaedics. Significant clinical experience, including orthopaedic Surgery and Outpatients. Evidence of continuing medical education.

Desirable

Experience in all aspects of Orthopaedics and Trauma
