Job summary
Wye Valley NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Specialist Registrar in Gastroenterology to join our friendly and supportive Gastroenterology team at Hereford County Hospital for a 12-month fixed-term appointment.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing Gastroenterology service and gain broad experience across both inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology and Hepatology specialities. The post has been created primarily to support the Gastroenterology inpatient ward (Lugg) and services, alongside providing additional capacity for our growing outpatient workload.
The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced consultant Gastroenterologists and fellow Speciality Registrars, providing high-quality care to Gastroenterology inpatients and offering specialist advice to patients across the hospital. You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills across a broad range of Gastroenterology and Hepatology presentations and to develop a particular sub-specialist interest with the support of our Consultant team.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of the Gastroenterology team at Hereford County Hospital, providing high-quality clinical care to patients across the inpatient and outpatient services.
There are excellent opportunities for Endoscopy training and development. Candidates who are already JAG accredited and have completed the appropriate local assessment may be offered an independent endoscopy list. For candidates who are working towards accreditation, a dedicated training list can be incorporated into the job plan. The department is committed to supporting JAG accreditation in colonoscopy and other endoscopic procedures, where appropriate.
The post also provides opportunities to participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, clinical audit, Mortality and Morbidity meetings, education and case review, supporting continued professional development and contribution to service improvement.
The post would suit an enthusiastic clinician looking to broaden their Gastroenterology and Hepatology experience.

Job description Job responsibilities
Inpatient Gastroenterology
Provide clinical care to patients admitted under the Gastroenterology service, working alongside the Gastroenterology ward Consultant and other Specialty Registrars. Provide Gastroenterology advice and support to patients admitted under other specialties across the hospital. Take clinical and professional responsibility for patients under your care, ensuring appropriate assessment, investigation, treatment and follow-up. Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives or carers, ensuring they are kept informed about their condition and involved in decisions regarding their treatment. Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and patient-centred care. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and complete relevant reports and documentation. Ensure appropriate delegation of clinical tasks and maintain professional standards in accordance with GMC guidance and Good Medical Practice.
Outpatient Gastroenterology and Hepatology
Deliver general Gastroenterology and Hepatology outpatient clinics. Develop experience and expertise in areas of Gastroenterology and Hepatology according to your interests and the needs of the service. Work with consultant colleagues to develop a sub-specialist interest, with opportunities to gain experience through links with tertiary services.
Endoscopy and Procedural Training
Participate in endoscopy activity in accordance with your level of training and competency. Candidates who are JAG accredited and have successfully completed the appropriate local assessment may be offered an independent endoscopy list. Candidates who are not yet independently accredited will receive a dedicated training list within the job plan, with appropriate supervision. Receive support and training towards JAG accreditation in colonoscopy and other relevant endoscopic procedures, where appropriate.
