Position Summary

Reporting to the VP, Operations, the Director, Strategic Procurement will partner closely with the Director, Procurement & Vendor Partnerships to lead vendor contracting, pricing strategy, sourcing, negotiations, procurement processes, and commercial performance across our national vendor network.

This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced procurement professional with strong negotiation, analytical, contract management, and process improvement expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Procurement & Pricing

• Develop and execute procurement strategies that support growth, profitability, and service objectives.

• Lead sourcing initiatives, pricing analysis, and commercial negotiations with waste and recycling service providers.

• Analyze vendor pricing across markets and regions to identify opportunities and establish pricing benchmarks.

• Develop reporting and analytics to track vendor pricing, market trends, and procurement performance.

Vendor Contracts & Commercial Management

• Lead the negotiation, management, and renewal of vendor agreements.

• Establish consistent commercial terms, pricing structures, service expectations, and contractual protections.

• Monitor contract expirations, pricing commitments, and commercial obligations.

• Partner with the Director, Procurement & Vendor Partnerships to align commercial agreements with operational requirements and vendor relationships.

• Support complex negotiations, escalations, and commercial discussions.

• Ensure negotiated terms are documented and effectively implemented.

Procurement Processes & Governance

• Develop and implement scalable procurement policies, processes, and procedures.

• Establish standards for sourcing, quoting, vendor selection, pricing validation, contract approvals, and negotiations.

• Create tools, templates, workflows, and reporting frameworks that improve consistency and accountability.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Provide procurement expertise for major client opportunities, implementations, and renewals.

• Translate operational needs into effective sourcing and negotiation strategies.

• Provide senior-level commercial guidance on complex vendor decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, contract management, or supply chain roles.

• SCMP designation preferred.

• Degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business, Commerce, or a related field.

• Strong experience negotiating contracts, pricing structures, and commercial terms.

• Proven ability to conduct pricing analysis and develop data-driven negotiation strategies.

• Experience designing or improving procurement processes and controls.

• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of procurement's impact on margins, operations, and customer service.

• Advanced Excel skills; Power BI or other business intelligence tools are an asset.

• Experience working with large or geographically dispersed supplier networks preferred.

• Industry experience in waste and recycling, logistics, transportation, facilities management, industrial services, or other multi-vendor environments is an asset.

Work Arrangement:

• Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 4pm

• Location: in-person at our Edmonton office
