The Medical Humanities Research Assistant is a Federal Work-Study position that supports faculty and staff in conducting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of medicine, healthcare, ethics, humanities, and community health. The student employee assists with literature reviews, data collection, research organization, and scholarly dissemination while developing research, analytical, and professional skills in an academic environment.

Responsibilities and Career Competencies

• Conduct literature reviews and summarize relevant healthcare and medical humanities research. (CT, T, CSD)

• Collect, organize, and manage research data while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards. (CT, P, T)

• Prepare research summaries, bibliographies, briefs, presentations, posters, manuscripts, and grant materials. (C, CT, T, CSD)

• Participate in research meetings and collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. (C, TW, P)

• Support community-engaged research, including outreach, surveys, interviews, and educational activities. (C, TW, CTR)

• Use research software and digital tools to maintain data, files, and project documentation. (T, CT, P)

• Analyze findings, identify trends, and contribute to research reports. (CT, C)

• Manage assignments and deadlines independently while demonstrating initiative and professional growth. (CSD, L, P)

Qualifications

• Current UPIKE student in good academic standing.

• Strong written, communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.

• Ability to conduct academic research and use databases, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and related technology.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow ethical research practices.

• Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively.

• Interest in medical humanities, healthcare, public health, ethics, or related research preferred.
