Salary: Level 11 Step 1 ($128,056.50 annually)

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Heritage oversees the development and delivery of TH Government heritage, cultural and Hän language programs, services and initiatives to meet the TH Government’s obligations as set out in Chapter 13 (Heritage) of the TH Final Agreement and Citizen expectations with respect to heritage and language. The incumbent directs, develops, and administers the Department’s financial and jëje’in resources, and maintains ongoing and effective communication with the community, TH Council, other TH Departments, other governments and heritage-related organizations.

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:

• Post-secondary degree (preferably a master's degree) in cultural studies, archaeology, anthropology, museum studies, heritage resource management or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of work experience; an equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills, and experience may be considered.

• Excellent working knowledge of TH Land Claim and related Agreements, including federal and Government of Yukon heritage-related legislation and policies.

• Knowledge of historic and contemporary relationships and cultural partnerships relevant to the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in, including Hän First Nations in Alaska and the Northwest Territories.

• Strong working knowledge of First Nations government systems and traditional protocols.

• Sound knowledge of Traditional Knowledge management and associated rights, obligations, and laws.

• Significant experience in working with Elders.

• Sound knowledge of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in social structures, traditions, language, and cultural values.

• Strong financial management skills, including experience with managing budgets and programs.

Assets:

• Experience conducting or participating in negotiations.

• Experience in conflict management, mediation and problem solving.

• Considerable experience in working as part of a senior management team, finding consensus, and aligning important cultural and traditional values into TH Government operations.

• Experience working at the management level, including directing, motivating and supervising jëje’in.
