Spire Solutions is hiring an Estimator II – Electrical to join our team in Des Moines, IA! The Estimator II will support the estimating team by preparing complete portions of an electrical estimate for construction projects. This role will provide quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, compile cost history, and preparing system comparisons. What You’ll Do:
• Read and analyze technical plans/specifications and assist team by incorporating those requirements in the estimate
• Produce reliable, complete, consistent, well-documented, and timely quantity surveys of assigned items
• Generate design development estimates, providing quantities and components based on incomplete plans and specifications.
• Assist in the development of complete project quantities based upon schematic level plans and elevations
• Conduct organized sub and vendor solicitation while accurately communicating the required scope of work
• Ensure complete trade coverage is obtained and advise project lead of potential solicitation shortfalls
• Assist in the preparation of bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabulation sheets (Bid Tickets), including any custom client cost breakdown/schedule of values
• Assist in projecting pricing based on historical data and adjusting pricing as needed to allow for project conditions
• Review trade proposals and scope letters as received to identify gaps and overlaps in scope of work
• Prepare the final estimate for rollover to the job cost accounting system, adjusted to meet project team's needs for cost management
• Prepare cost analysis reports and be mindful of value analysis opportunities throughout the estimating process
What We’re Looking For:
• Experience:
• 2+ years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry
• Experience with electrical estimates is highly preferred
• Degree in a construction-related field is desired
• Skills:
• Analytical with a high level of accuracy
• Strong mathematical skills
• Flexibility to balance competing needs with tight timeframes
• Quick learner
• High level of initiative and problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Technology:
• Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
• Experience with Procore and Bluebeam is a plus
• Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire
