Key Duties and Responsibilities

The core duty of the co-teacher is to be an ever present champion of the students in your classes. Building close relationships with the students is fundamental to success in this position as is clear communication with all of the teachers that you work with. Co-teachers contribute to the community in many ways, and the most successful co-teachers are proactive, adaptable, patient, and committed to the needs of their students and the community.

Examples of some indicative responsibilities are as follows. This list is not exhaustive, and co-teachers will not necessarily be working on these all at the same time, but this does give an indication of the types of responsibilities that come with this position.

Indicative Responsibilities

• Provide support in all aspects of managing a classroom

• Positively and proactively manage the behavior of students in their care

• Help ensure a positive and inclusive classroom culture is being followed

• Provide small-group instruction

• Address the class as needed

• Attend and contribute to parent meetings

• Provide feedback and support with report writing

• Take up ad-hoc duties instructed by their mentor teachers

• Support organisational and administrative needs such as classroom systems and set-up

• Establish rapport with students and colleagues throughout all assigned tasks throughout the school day

• Perform any other professional duties required by the Head of School and the Co-Principals.

Key Qualifications

• Solid foundational STEM (Science and Mathematics) knowledge, understanding and interest

• PGCE (either completion, in-progress or genuine interest to complete)

Preferred

• Previous experience or familiarity with American education system

• Previous experience with Google suite
