Who are we?

Newmedica is one of the leading providers of NHS-funded ophthalmology services in England.

• Our Purpose is to make a positive difference to people’s lives

• Our Vision is to change lives through better sight and eye health

We provide services for NHS CCGs, NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts, and other providers of NHS funded services. We deliver thousands of patient interactions annually, including outpatient appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. Our services are delivered through a variety of models including Managed Services and Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships.

We are looking for a new Receptionist/ Patient Administrator to join our Bristol sites. This will be 40 hours over 5 days per week, including weekends on a rota basis.

We’re looking for a proactive and people-focused Receptionist/ Patient Administrator to join our busy team at our Bristol clinic.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You’ll be the first point of contact for our patients and will support a wide range of administrative tasks to ensure a smooth and professional experience from start to finish.

Purpose of the Role

Our Clinic Receptionists are the face of Newmedica – they’re often amongst the first people that our patients interact with on clinic visits, therefore, having a welcoming, friendly, empathetic approach is vital.

Our Clinic Receptionists check in a high volume of patients each day, update their information and assist with booking future appointments and the answering of any queries using a variety of different systems. The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for patients to deal with, so our Clinic Receptionists need to be able to put patients at ease. They also need strong communication skills, to be able to explain the purpose of the different tests and help the patients understand their treatment.

Newmedica is committed to the growth and development of all our colleagues. The Clinic Receptionist role is a great opportunity to have exposure to both the clinical and administrative aspects of healthcare.

What You'll Do

• Booking patient appointments and managing clinic schedules

• Answering phone calls and responding to emails with professionalism and empathy

• Handling incoming and outgoing post, and preparing patient letters

• Managing both face-to-face and telephone enquiries from patients and colleagues

• Ensuring accurate record-keeping and data entry

• Supporting the wider clinical and administrative team as needed

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is caring, organised, and passionate about people and service. You could have previous experience, or be at the start of your career in healthcare.

We need someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and genuinely enjoys helping others. Our clinics can be busy, and patients may feel nervous about their procedures – so it’s essential that you’re friendly, reassuring, and calm under pressure.

We’ll provide training so direct experience isn’t always needed, but the following things will be advantageous:

• Previous experience in a customer service or patient facing role

• Experience in a busy administrative role

• An understanding and respect of confidentiality at all times when dealing with calls or with patients directly

• Enjoys working with a range of people and is able to tailor their approach to a diversity of patients’ needs with a friendly and accessible personal manner

• Confident use of Office 365 and tech systems (training provided)

• Great communication skills, both written and verbal

• A team player mentality with a proactive, solution-focused approach

• Ability to manage competing priorities with calm and clarity

• An understanding of CQC standards (advantageous)
