Position Description
The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for processing all aspects of payroll in a timely, accurate and efficient manner. This role ensures proper review of time entries, maintains employee records, and supports payroll-related compliance activities. The Payroll Coordinator also assists with new hire onboarding, check distribution, and employee inquiries, contributing to the overall accuracy and integrity of the company’s payroll operations. This position plays a key role in supporting a smooth and compliant payroll process across the organization.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
• Review and process weekly payroll in an accurate and timely manner
• Verify timesheets for completeness and accuracy
• Coordinate weekly check distribution, including sorting and mailing according to schedule
• Maintain and update personnel files in compliance with company policies
• Enter new hires into the system
• Prepare and submit certified payroll in accordance with reporting requirements
• Record & pay all payroll related taxes/liabilities (child support, garnishments, etc)
• Reconcile employee benefit deductions with provider invoices
• Process adjustment and layoff checks as necessary
• Complete employment verifications as requested
• Respond to employee inquiries and provide payroll-related support in a professional and timely manner

Required Experience
• Minimum 2-4 years of related work experience
• Knowledge of cost accounting
• Proficient in Timberline and various other accounting software (CMiC a plus)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Experience with certified payroll/Davis Bacon Act
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary for this position is one component of J. Benton Construction’s total compensation package. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including a candidate’s skills, experience, education, relevant qualifications, internal equity, and business needs.
