About this role
The Blaster is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective execution of blasting activities in support of production and development targets. This role works closely with technical services to ensure drill patterns, blast designs, and timing plans are executed according to specifications, regulations, and site safety standards.
Key Area:
The Blaster will be called upon to:
• Plan and design blast patterns in alignment with geological assessments and production requirements.
• Conduct pre-blast inspections and risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Load, tie-in, and detonate explosive charges according to blasting plans and legal requirements.
• Monitor and record blast results; evaluate effectiveness and adjust strategies as needed.
• Collaborate with quarry managers, drill and blast supervisor, and safety officers to coordinate blasting schedules and minimize disruptions.
• Maintain accurate records of explosive use, inventory, and blast reports as required by law.
• Inspect and maintain blasting equipment and ensure secure storage and handling of explosives.
• Enforce safety protocols for the blasting team and ensure area clearance before and after blasts.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
• Certified Blaster’s License
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blast design software.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Physically and mentally fit.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in quarry blasting or a similar heavy industrial environment.
