Position Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Technician Supervisor, the Facilities Technician I performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance, minor repairs, groundskeeping, security support, and janitorial services across multiple organizational facilities. This position conducts regular facility inspections, responds to maintenance needs, and helps ensure buildings, grounds, equipment, and common areas remain clean, safe, functional, and well maintained.

Essential Functions:

• Conducts routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance, repair, safety, and security needs.

• Troubleshoots and completes minor electrical, plumbing, structural, mechanical, and equipment repairs or replacements within the scope of the position.

• Safely operates hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and other maintenance equipment, following all equipment policies and procedures.

• Performs preventive building maintenance, including but not limited to caulking windows and doors, replacing broken glass, and installing pictures, shelving, whiteboards, and similar fixtures.

• Completes basic repairs, minor fabrication, carpentry, drywall patching, painting, and general facility improvement work.

• Performs routine plumbing repairs, including clearing toilets, sinks, and urinals and repairing minor leaks involving faucets, fixtures, and drinking fountains.

• Repairs or replaces doorknobs, locks, and door-closing mechanisms and assists in maintaining building security.

• Maintains facility grounds and walkways, including mowing lawns, removing weeds, and consistently keeping sidewalks, entrances, and parking areas clean and free of hazards.

• Performs emergency cleanup in restrooms, waiting areas, exterior spaces, and other facility locations as needed.

• Provides facility coverage during evenings and weekends when maintenance or repair work cannot be completed during regular business hours.

• Assists with the setup and breakdown of outdoor events and other organizational activities.

• Follows applicable safety procedures and properly uses required personal protective equipment.

• Travels using company vehicles.

• Transports supplies, furniture, goods, and equipment between organizational locations as needed, following all transport policies and procedures.

• Assists employees, visitors, contractors, and others with facility-related needs in a courteous and professional manner.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Three years of related facilities maintenance, construction, repair, groundskeeping, or equivalent work experience preferred.

• Current and valid Oregon driver’s license with a clean driving record required.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B commercial driver’s license within one year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of building maintenance, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, carpentry, painting, groundskeeping, and general repair practices.

• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and other maintenance-related equipment.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, safety requirements, equipment manuals, and work orders; ability to follow a maintenance schedule.

• Ability to use sound judgment and practical problem-solving skills when responding to routine maintenance needs.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify safety, maintenance, and repair concerns.

• Ability to organize and prioritize work while responding appropriately to urgent facility needs.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while providing courteous service to employees, visitors, and others.

• Ability to travel between organizational facilities and work occasional evenings and weekends as operational needs require.
