About this role
This role evaluates the nature and distribution of rock properties and formation fluids across the life cycle of our clients’ reservoirs — from log analysis and core data through to the models that inform reserves and development decisions. We’re looking for rigorous petrophysical judgment paired with real versatility: someone who tracks new interpretation methods and technologies as closely as they apply proven ones, and who’s ready to help bring AI-assisted tools into how petrophysics gets done at Ad Terra.
What You'll Do
Data acquisition:
• Design well data acquisition plans
• Adapt well-log and data collection methods
Data processing:
• Define suitable well measurements and data-processing methods
• Prepare and process well data for petrophysical interpretation
• Load, gather, transfer, and organize well data
• Conduct quality control of data
• Populate and maintain well databases
Data interpretation:
• Conduct detailed analysis of wireline logs, core data, and seismic attributes
• Build and develop petrophysical and geo-mechanical models
• Perform volumetric calculations to estimate reserves and resources
• Process and interpret borehole imagery
• Conduct simulations to model fluid behavior
• Develop and improve techniques for formation evaluations from cores and cuttings
• Describe log-derived mechanical properties
• Characterize conventional and unconventional resources
• Resolve interpretation issues
• Run forecasts
AI & Digital Tools:
• Apply and help develop AI/ML-assisted log QC, facies prediction, and automated petrophysical interpretation workflows
• Evaluate and pilot emerging AI tools (e.g., automated log correlation, anomaly detection) to improve interpretation efficiency
• Contribute petrophysical domain expertise to Ad Terra's digital subsurface intelligence initiatives
Projects:
• Complete tasks in areas of expertise
• Document progress, setbacks, and new processes
• Establish clear and relevant timesheets
Reporting:
• Generate and write reports, create maps, tables, figures, and summaries
• Review documents, studies, models, and reports prepared by peers
• Report results to managers, clients, partners, etc.
What You'll Bring
• University degree (MSc or PhD) in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering or a related field
• Experience as a Petrophysicist (2-5 years)
• Minimum 2–5 years of hands-on Oil & Gas industry experience (exploration, development, or production) — mandatory
• In-depth knowledge of petrophysical principles and practices
• Proficient with petrophysical programs such as Petrel, Geolog, Techlog, etc.
• Comfortable working with and developing AI tools (e.g., Python scripting, ML-assisted log QC or facies prediction) to support and automate petrophysical interpretation
• Good understanding of the oil and gas industry
• Familiarity with PETRONAS Technical Standards (PTS) and the Malaysian upstream regulatory framework is an advantage; professional body registration a plus
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Strong numerical and literacy skills
• Systematic and methodical approach
• Able to work efficiently under pressure
• Rigor and organization
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Fluent in English (excellent verbal and written proficiency)
What We Offer
• Permanent, full-time local contract with statutory EPF / SOCSO / EIS contributions
• Medical and insurance coverage; competitive annual leave
• Exposure to international multi-resource projects across Ad Terra's platform (Europe, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Asia-Pacific)
