AdeptAg is the North American leader in turnkey design, automation solutions, irrigation systems, and services for controlled environment production. Through Plantech Control Solutions, we provide integrated electrical, control, automation, and post-harvest solutions to greenhouse and produce operations. Plantech partners with Aweta, a global provider of produce sorting, grading, and packing technology, to help growers improve quality, throughput, consistency, and labour efficiency.
About the Role
The Junior Sales Representative supports the growth of Plantech Control Solutions' Aweta sorting, grading, and packing equipment business across the Leamington-Chatham greenhouse corridor and surrounding region. This is a technically oriented field sales role focused on understanding customer product flow, identifying opportunities, and matching Aweta technologies to greenhouse and produce packing requirements.
Working alongside senior Sales, Engineering, Controls, Electrical, and Service teams, this position develops customer relationships, supports quotations and proposals, participates in site assessments, and helps coordinate a smooth transition from sale through installation and commissioning. Over time, the Junior Sales Representative will develop the technical and commercial knowledge required to independently manage customer opportunities and build an assigned book of business.
Key Responsibilities
• Support and grow sales of Aweta sorting, grading, and packing equipment to greenhouse and produce operations throughout the assigned territory.
• Learn each customer’s product flow from intake and singulation through sorting, grading, buffering, packaging, and pack-out to identify opportunities to improve quality, throughput, and labour efficiency.
• Conduct customer site visits and line walk-throughs to assess packhouse layouts, process-control requirements, equipment needs, and packaging formats including boxes, trays, punnets, and clamshells.
• Prepare quotations, proposals, and basic ROI/payback analyses in collaboration with senior Sales and Applications Engineering resources.
• Build and maintain relationships with growers, packers, operations managers, and other customer stakeholders and provide responsive follow-up.
• Represent Plantech and Aweta at trade shows, grower events, customer meetings, and on-site equipment demonstrations.
• Coordinate with Plantech Controls, Electrical, Engineering, and Service teams to support an effective handoff from sale through installation and commissioning.
• Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, pipeline, activity, and follow-up information in the company CRM.
• Maintain current knowledge of Aweta products, produce-grading technology, automated packing solutions, and developments within controlled-environment agriculture.
Education and Experience
• Approximately 1-3 years of experience in sales, technical service, operations, applications, automation, or a related role; relevant co-op or internship experience may also be considered.
• Post-secondary education in automation, electromechanical technology, engineering, agriculture, agri-business, business, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
• Practical understanding of product flow and packaging, ideally within produce, food processing, greenhouse, or another high-volume packing environment.
• Hands-on exposure to process-control systems such as PLC-driven equipment, automated production lines, packhouse equipment, or food-processing controls is preferred.
• Knowledge of greenhouse or fresh-produce operations, particularly tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers, is an asset.
• Experience selling or supporting capital equipment, automation, or technical solutions is an asset.
Technical Skills and Competencies
• Strong communication, relationship-building, customer-service, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn technical products and translate customer requirements into practical equipment solutions.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple customer opportunities and follow-up requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn and effectively use CRM and other business systems.
• Familiarity with vision grading, weight sizing, near-infrared/internal-quality sensing, automated packing, or palletizing technology is an asset.
• French or Spanish language skills are considered an asset.
• Professional, customer-focused, and team-oriented approach.
Travel & Work Environment
• Regular field travel throughout the Leamington-Chatham region and surrounding territory is required.
• Occasional travel outside the immediate territory may be required based on customer and business needs.
• The role involves work in customer packhouses, greenhouse facilities, production environments, trade shows, and office settings.
• Flexibility in work hours may be required to accommodate customer meetings, demonstrations, events, and travel.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory and occasionally beyond.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
