Charge Nurse

Position Description: Employees in this classification are responsible for nursing care at the unit. Implements unit objectives and administrative policies. This position is under the clinical supervision of the Unit Director of Nursing.

Major/Essential Functions: • Clinical Operations Oversight - Greater than or equal to 95% compliance with organizational, state, and regulatory clinical standards. 100% shift coverage with appropriate staff skill mix. Greater than or equal to 98% timely completion of delegated patient care tasks per shift. Less than or equal to 2% medication error rate attributable to delegation/supervision issues. 100% completion of daily safety rounds and shift reports. • Staff Supervision and Development - 100% completion of annual performance evaluations by deadline. Greater than or equal to 98% staff completion rate for required annual competencies. Documentation of real-time coaching or corrective action within 24 hours of identified issues. • Quality and Compliance - Greater than or equal to 98% audit score on internal/external compliance reviews. 100% corrective action plans initiated within 5 business days of identified deficiency. Greater than or equal to 98% participation rate in quality improvement initiatives. • Clinical Care and Documentation - Sick call response timeliness: Greater than or equal to 95% of sick call requests triaged within appropriate timeframe. Emergency response time: Average response less than or equal to 2 minutes from call to arrival. Hospital transfer appropriateness: 100% of transfers meeting clinical criteria. CN Rounding: 100% completion. Documentation timeliness: Greater than or equal to 98% of nursing notes completed by end of shift. • Patient Care Coordination - Greater than or equal to 95% completion of interdisciplinary care coordination documentation. 100% timely escalation of high-risk patients per protocol. • Communication and Reporting - 100% incident reports submitted within required reporting window. 100% shift handoff reports completed using approved format. Less than or equal to 2% communication-related adverse event rate. Attendance at greater than or equal to 95% of required leadership/clinical meetings. • Other Duties as Assigned - Demonstrates flexibility in supporting operational needs, including cross-coverage and special assignments. Maintains performance standards consistent with primary job functions when performing additional duties.

Pay Statement: Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. Required Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Two years of nursing experience, with at least 6 months of that experience as a Registered Nurse. Possession of a valid, current RN license as approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners.

Visa Information: TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott.
