Position Description: Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.

Major/Essential Functions: • Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals and outcomes - Appropriately documents care provided and patient's response to care in an appropriate and timely manner in patients' charts. • Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures - Ensures equipment and instruments are used and maintained in accordance with established procedures in clinical area. • Assists with or performs exams and procedures - Assistance in exams and procedures is conducted within the LVN scope of practice. All activities are clearly, concisely documented in patients' health records. Specimens taken during exam or procedure are labeled at patient's bedside. • Administer or assist with the administration of medications to patients - Ensures patient medications are administered following clinical and compliance policies and procedures. Activities are documented clearly and concisely in medication systems and patients' health records timely and accurately. • Assess and triage patient care requests - Receives, documents, assesses, and responds to patient care requests according to policy and standards of the department. Clearly, concisely, and timely documents activities in the patient's health records. • Performs nursing rounds as needed in all required areas - Nursing rounds will be performed per department standards; any and all complaints are documented in patients' health record. Additional healthcare needs are requested as needed. • Other duties as assigned - Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification and/or position description.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electronic health records. Ability to operate in a dynamic health facility, under the direction of supervising nurses.

Pay Statement: Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. Required Qualifications: Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Current CPR certification. Graduated from an approved, accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt. No experience required.

Visa Information: TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
