The Shift Operations Technician is a field-based member of the shift team responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally compliant operation of Tees REP, a biomass power station. You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence. • Carry out field rounds, plant inspections and local operations across Fuel Handling Systems, Balance of Plant and auxiliary systems, the CFB boiler, and the Steam Turbine Generator and associated systems. • Monitor equipment condition and process parameters; identify abnormal conditions, alarms, leaks, vibration, noise or deterioration; and take safe first-line action within competence and authority. • Operate plant locally during normal running, start-up, shutdown, testing and abnormal or emergency conditions in accordance with approved procedures and Shift Manager instructions. • Oversee biomass fuel receipt, storage, transfer and feeding activities, including supervision of third-party deliveries and safe management of fuel-handling hazards. • Support control of steam, water, air, electrical, emissions-control, ash-handling and other auxiliary systems required for safe and reliable generation. • Diagnose plant faults, make equipment safe and, where trained and authorised, carry out minor rectification or first-line maintenance. • Raise and update defects in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and maintain clear shift logs covering plant status, process changes, defects and planned work. • Apply, remove and prove process and mechanical isolations when trained and authorised, in accordance with the site Safe System of Work and Permit to Work arrangements. • Undertake routine operational checks and functional testing of emergency and non-emergency plant and equipment. • Assist maintenance and engineering teams during planned maintenance, defect rectification, outages and plant return-to-service activities. • Follow the competency-based operator training programme, completing practical tasks, technical learning, assessments and authorisations within agreed timescales. • Develop competence in DCS monitoring, alarm response, plant control and control-room communications, progressing to authorised control-room duties when competence has been demonstrated. • Support the development and review of operating procedures, risk controls and supporting documentation, and contribute to continuous improvement. • Report safety or environmental concerns promptly, control hazards within authority, and work as part of the shift team to minimise operational, health, safety and environmental risk.
