About this role

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Shift Engineer (G5) in the Operations department at South Humber Bank Power Station. The successful candidate will lead a shift team in the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant, ensuring the delivery of health, safety, environmental, production and commercial objectives. As the senior person on site outside normal office hours, they will oversee day-to-day plant operations, lead and support a team of Operations Technicians, coordinate contractor activities, and ensure compliance with all safety, environmental and operational requirements. The role involves monitoring plant performance, investigating operational issues and implementing corrective actions to support continuous improvement, while ensuring customer and National Grid requirements are met. The successful candidate will promote a strong safety culture, maintain plant integrity and provide cover for the Operations Manager, when required. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the key duties and responsibilities will include: Managing a shift team to optimise (in terms of availability and energy conversion efficiency) the preparation, start-up, control and shutdown of the plant within physical and commercial constraints, whilst also managing the response to condition monitoring data / plant alarms, and managing the completion of tests, records, checks and inspections. Managing the interaction with National Grid and TTEP Traders in respect of energy requirements and supply, to ensure awareness and understanding by all and in doing so contributes to the effectiveness of the working relationships. Contributing and achieving production targets (output, reliability, availability, flexibility, MWh deviation, energy conversion efficiency, flexibility, response and reactive) to satisfy customer, company, legislative and regulatory requirements. Actively participates in the delivery of planned station outages, routine O&M, contingency and recovery plans and other project works as deemed appropriate from time to time and support the development and implementation of group wide activities and value-adding initiatives as required by the Operations Manager. This includes reporting and reviewing key business and operational indicators, highlight adverse trends, propose and implement corrective actions. Ensuring that production targets are achieved, improve the integrity and performance of the plant through data gathering, reviewing performance, and analysing, engineering and proposing change. Ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental targets are achieved and to ensure compliance with, and continuous improvement of, the site Health, Safety and Environmental management systems and practices. Ensures that risk assessments are completed for all work activities as detailed in the Safe System of Work. Develops and maintains a high performing team, ensuring that the team contains the requisite competencies, individuals are developed and performance is managed utilising the performance management system. Communicates and documents a detailed shift handover at the end of each shift, in conjunction with other Shift Engineers, including managing the shift roster to maintain agreed shift numbers and continuity between shifts thus enabling the operations shift teams to safely and effectively operate the asset. Establishs and maintains effective communication networks within own and wider team, ensuring business objectives and activities are clear, understood and best practice is shared, through preparation and participation in team and toolbox talks and the site meetings to keep staff appraised of events and ensure they are involved and engaged in the business.
