Job summary
You must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment to ensure patient safety is consistently maintained. The role involves assisting the Registered Nurse in the assessment, planning, and implementation of care for patients within the Emergency Department. You will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and be accountable to the Nurse in Charge, escalating any concerns promptly to registered professionals. Accurate and timely documentation on electronic patient records is required.
You will also be responsible for assisting in personal cares, keeping clinical areas clean and stocked.
You will attend mandatory training and ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant policies and procedures. The role also requires excellent communication skills, the ability to maintain professional boundaries, and a commitment to working within your own limitations and defined scope of practice.
You must be able to work a mix of shifts over 24/7 period
Main duties of the job
Working in a fast-paced clinical environment, you will adapt to the changing acuity of the department while delivering high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include providing personal care, assisting patients with nutritional needs, recording vital signs, and conducting pain assessments. You will perform wound care, including cleaning wounds and applying dressings, and assist with wound closure under the supervision of a registered practitioner.
Clinical duties also include phlebotomy, cannulation, blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, urine testing (including preparation for microscopy as instructed), and recording ECGs. You will apply plaster of Paris back slabs, splints, and bandages, and assess patients for crutch use, including correct fitting and instruction.
In addition, you will maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised environment by cleaning all areas of the department, decontaminating cubicles, and preparing clinical areas for patient use.
