Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Midlands and North West Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Team based at Hospital of St Cross, Rugby for the role of Screening Administrator.

The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme offers screening to men and women inviting those aged between the age 50 - 74. The Screening Administrator role includes engaging with individuals through the national patient helpline, administrative support, and laboratory support including the logging of completed faecal sample tests (FIT tests). In addition, the role will support the printing and packing function of the Hub.

37.5 hour post Monday - Friday 0900 to 1700 or 0930 to 1730.

Main duties of the job

Answer the National Bowel Cancer Screening Helpline, responding to individuals in a professional and courteous manner and providing advice and guidance on the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in accordance with departmental and national policies and guidance.

Provide laboratory support following the return of Bowel Cancer Screening Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kits, including the preparation, opening, and logging of samples. This will involve the operation of electronic sample-opening equipment.

Assist with the production and distribution of bulk communications, including screening invitations and related correspondence, using specialist packing and mailing machinery.

Complete administrative processes relating to the Symptomatic FIT Pathway, including the preparation and dispatch of patient sample packs.

Job description Job responsibilities

Maintain both manual and electronic filing systems and databases, as required by the Department, ensuring all documents are accurately and appropriately stored and archived. Provide comprehensive administrative support including processing of incoming/outgoing post such as undelivered mail items; sending individual subject (patient) correspondence from template letters such as assistance to subjects who have not completed their kit correctly. Process symptomatic FIT referral forms received to send out the kit and letter to the patient, check completed packs for accuracy against the referral form, add record to the database and produce forms using templates from these records. Act as first point of contact for complaints and deal with these in line with Trust and Departmental policy. Work in accordance with the Department Quality Management System including adhering to Standard Operating Procedures. Assist in training new staff members. Person Specification

Qualification /Training Essential

oGCSE numeracy and literacy qualifications or equivalent.

Desirable

oNVQ level 2 in relevant discipline (eg Administration; Customer care; ICT) or equivalent.

Experience Essential

oExperience of working in a busy administration environment.

Desirable

oExperience in a customer facing role. oExperience of dealing with people over the telephone. oExperience of a laboratory environment. oExperience of working under pressure and to meet deadlines. oNHS experience.

Knowledge Essential

oWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel. oUnderstanding of general office procedures.

Desirable

oKnowledge of Bowel Cancer screening programme.
