About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a highly organised, proactive and efficient Healthcare Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our clinical team.

Your key competencies must include phlebotomy, with ideally experience of wound care and working in a primary care environment. Familiarity with SystmOne would be desirable.

The vacancy is for 24 hours per week to be worked over 3 days between our Frampton and Wotton sites - Tuesday 7.30am - 3.30pm, Wednesday 8.00am - 4.00pm and Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm.

You will have a key role in patient-facing care running your own clinics, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Our clinics operate at a fast pace, with patients booked every 10 minutes, so you will need to be efficient, calm, approachable and able to work well under pressure, while maintaining a high standard of patient care.

Alongside clinical duties, dedicated admin time will be provided for tasks such as processing orders, organising stock, preparing and maintaining clinical rooms, and ensuring the team has everything it needs to operate efficiently.

This is a busy and varied role, ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on and who takes pride in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Culverhay Surgery is a well-established friendly GP training practice located in Wotton under Edge, Berkeley and Frampton on Severn in Gloucestershire.

The Culverhay ethos is very much based around continuity of care and good team working to provide excellent, responsive patient care for our 18200 patients.

Our team consists of 4 partners (1 managing partner), 13 salaried GP's, a full skill mix of nurses, paramedic, a senior clinical pharmacist, pharmacy technicians, frailty care co-ordinators, social prescriber and practice counsellors. Not forgetting our fantastic reception and admin team who work very hard to minimise administrative burden for the clinical team.

Staff turnover is very low and the practice encourages feedback, to help us create a happy supportive practice environment.

We are a GP training practice (Severn Deanery) with 2 GP trainers. In addition, we are a teaching practice (University of Bristol medical students and UWE/University of Gloucestershire nursing students)

Duties and responsibilities:

Health checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Flu vaccinations

Spirometry

Support to Stop Smoking Clinics

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Send surgical equipment to CSSD. Check equipment back in.

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent qualification. Phlebotomy certification. Infection control

Desirable

Experience in working in a primary care environment. Wound care/removal of sutures. ECG's Patient health checks, inc height, weight, BP, pulse. Stop smoking clinics. Flu and B12 vaccinations Ability to record accurate clinical notes.
