About this role

Job summary

New Spenser Ward is an all-female assessment and treatment ward for older adults (generally over the age of 65) who are experiencing mental health difficulties. New Spenser Ward aims to provide person-centred care that fosters the patients' respect, dignity, privacy and spirituality by providing holistic support within a multi-disciplinary team framework.

We are pleased to advertise a vacancy for an Assistant Psychologist to join us on New Spenser Ward. You will be joining an enthusiastic, supportive and well-staffed Therapies Team, which includes Speech and Language Therapy, Dietetics, Activity Coordinators, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

Main duties of the job

The post would suit a keen, energetic individual who is passionate about the psychological care and well-being of older adults who are acutely unwell. Under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will be responsible for contributing to patients' journeys back to health. This role is diverse and includes delivery of group interventions, development of Positive Behaviour Support plans, 1:1 intervention and support (with supervision), cognitive screening assessments and taking responsibility for the collection of outcome measures. It also involves working together with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, as well as with carers and external agencies e.g. care homes, support agencies, social services.

The post-holder will also be part of the wider Older Adults Psychological Services department. There is both substantial formal supervision and informal support, including an Assistant Psychologist group and excellent opportunities for professional development within the Trust.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of working in relevant area, either voluntary or paid Experience of working collaboratively with others Experience in designing projects and analysing the outputs Competent in the use of SPSS for Windows including setting up databases, statistical analysis and presentation of results Evidence of being passionate about ensuring a high-quality holistic approach to the provision of psychological care and support to people who use services within the specified clinical area

Qualifications Essential

Psychology degree accredited by BPS* at 2.1 or above OR o Psychology degree accredited by BPS* at 2.2 and additional relevant Masters qualification OR o Degree plus master's level conversion qualification accredited by BPS* *BPS - British Psychological Society
