Main duties of the job As a newly qualified or early-career Speech and Language Therapist, you'll play a vital role in helping people communicate, eat, drink and swallow safely, improving independence, wellbeing and quality of life. You will support adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders to maximise their independence, wellbeing and quality of life. You will assess, prioritise and manage a diverse caseload, responding appropriately to complex, sensitive and unpredictable clinical and non-clinical situations. You will deliver person-centred interventions for individuals with communication impairments, mental health needs, degenerative conditions, terminal illnesses and other complex presentations. You will provide clear advice, guidance and practical communication strategies to patients, carers and other professionals to help individuals achieve their communication potential.

Assess, prioritise and manage a diverse caseload, responding appropriately to complex, sensitive and unpredictable clinical and non-clinical situations. Deliver person-centred interventions for individuals with communication impairments, mental health needs, degenerative conditions, terminal illnesses and other complex presentations. Provide clear advice, guidance and practical communication strategies to patients, carers and other professionals to help individuals achieve their communication potential. Communicate complex, sensitive or challenging information with professionalism, empathy and compassion. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies, contributing specialist advice and recommendations to support effective patient care. Build positive working relationships with healthcare professionals, carers and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated and seamless service delivery. Contribute to safe, high-quality clinical practice by maintaining accurate records and supporting evidence-based decision-making.Essential Criteria Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification). HCPC registration and eligibility to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist. Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) with a commitment to continuing professional development. Knowledge of relevant national and local clinical guidelines. Ability to demonstrate empathy, support and reassurance when working with individuals with communication and/or swallowing difficulties, their families and carers. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, openly and effectively with a range of audiences. High level of clinical assessment and diagnostic skills relevant to speech, language and swallowing disorders. Self-aware, professional and able to build positive working relationships. Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification). HCPC registration and eligibility to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist.
