The Department of Computer Science offers BSc, MSc, MPhil and PhD programmes, and conducts research in areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics and health informatics. The Department invites applications for the following project-based position, funded by the Chinese Medicine Development Fund (CMDF) – Sector Support Programme under the project "Empowering Traditional Medicine with Modern Technology: Application and Research of Large Language Model Technology in Chinese Medicine Education":
Responsibilities:
Working under the guidance of the project's core engineers, the appointee will:
(a) undertake data engineering work on large-scale Chinese medicine corpora, including in-depth data cleaning, structured format conversion and de-duplication;
(b) deploy and maintain the vector database and implement the underlying retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipeline;
(c) assist in the factuality verification of model-generated content and in the statistical analysis of experimental evaluation data; and
(d) assist in the preparation of research reports and academic papers.
Requirements:
• Possess a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science or a related discipline, and be proficient in Python programming, database management and development; • Experience with text processing and OCR pipelines, vector databases (e.g. FAISS, Milvus, Chroma) and RAG or LLM application frameworks (e.g. LangChain, LlamaIndex) is highly desirable; • Be detail-oriented, able to work independently on large and heterogeneous text datasets, and have good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and • Experience in handling classical Chinese texts or Chinese medicine materials will be an advantage.

The initial appointment will be made on a full-time fixed-term contract of up to 24 months, and in any event not beyond the end date of the funded project. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and the availability of funding.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
