About this role
The Westwood Public Schools has an immediate opening for a Custodian on the 2:30pm-10:30pm shift. Pay is governed by a union contract and typically starts at $22.70 - $24.80 depending on qualifications and experience. Pay increases up to 28.99 with years of service. Evening differential of $1. Essential Functions Cleaning and Maintenance
• Ensure the building is a safe, healthy, and clean environment at the start of each work day. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Clean high traffic areas, such as the cafeteria after lunch.
• Inspect, clean, and re-stock bathrooms during the school day.
• Dust, disinfect, scrub, sweep, mop, wax, and polish as needed.
• Use cleaning machines and other heavy equipment.
• Collect and empty paper and trash.
• Remove snow from walkways, entryways and other locations as needed.
• Move furniture, cleaning equipment, ladders and barrels.
• Manage shipping and receiving, and deliver packages as needed throughout the building.
• Repair small equipment, replace light bulbs, and paint as needed.
Communication and Problem Solving
• Promptly address needs of faculty and staff, including concerns about cleaning, temperature.
• Receive and immediately relay reports impacting building safety or involving building maintenance and repair.
• Participate in safety and security drills.
• Respond to emergencies or alarms (Sonitrol).
Partnership and Collaboration
• Interact professionally and courteously with all members of the school community and facilitate the safe use of buildings and grounds during and after school hours.
Controls
• Operate and monitor temperature controls throughout the building.
• Operate and monitor light fixtures and controls.
• Be familiar with fire alarm and security alarm systems.
Event Management
• Review the schedule for building use and ensure setups are done in a timely fashion.
• Set up for catering events.
• Assist technology staff with set up of AV and tech equipment.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong communication skills and flexibility.
• Driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching, as well as carrying and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet.
• Travel among buildings may be required.
