POSITION Health Room Assistant LOCATION Districtwide SCHEDULE Hours/Day - 7 Days/Year - 191 SALARY HRA Level - SNAP Salary Schedule Placement is dependent on verified experience Pay is annualized over 12 months JOB TYPE Hourly UNION/CONTRACT SNAP (PSE) START DATE Upon Hire SUMMARY Under the direction and supervision of the certificated school nurse or designee, this position will provide health room management and assist in the implementation of the district health services program. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in and/or education related to the healthcare/nursing field.

• Required to have a current First Aid/CPR/AED card and training for HIV/AIDS procedures.

• Ability to be trained and delegated by the school nurse to administer medications to students.

• Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance.

• Valid Washington State driver's license or evidence of mobility.

• I-9 Employment Eligibility.

• Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from the hire date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of basic health care, first aid, infection control, and Universal/Standard Precautions.

• Llearn and safely perform health-related tasks as trained, delegated, and supervised by the school nurse.

• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to student illness, injury, and health concerns.

• Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, staff, and health care personnel.

• Maintain accurate health records, medication logs, and other required documentation.

• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student and staff information appropriately.

• Use computers, email, electronic records, and other technology required for the position.

• Organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.

• Establish positive and cooperative working relationships with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

• Follow health care plans, medication orders, District procedures, and directions from the school nurse and supervisors.

• Ability to remain calm, flexible, and professional when responding to stressful or emergency situations.

• Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, dependability, and sound judgment.

• Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide health room support under the direction, delegation, and supervision of the certificated school nurse or designee.

• Perform nursing and health-related tasks only as trained, delegated, and supervised by the RN and within the scope of the position. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

• Medication administration, including oral, topical, nasal, ear, eye, and epinephrine by injection.

• Providing immediate first aid in cases of injury or sudden illness.

• Seizure care.

• Blood glucose monitoring.

• Verification of insulin dosage on a pen or pump.

• Taking and recording vital signs.

• Follow individual health plans, emergency care plans, medication orders, and established District health procedures as directed by the RN.

• Practice Universal/Standard Precautions and appropriate clean techniques to prevent or minimize infection and promote student and staff safety.

• Assist students with personal care needs, including diapering, toileting routines, and hygiene, as assigned.

• Monitor health room supplies and maintain an organized, clean, and appropriately stocked health room.

• Maintain accurate and timely health room documentation, including care plans, medication orders, medication logs, health room logs, and other health-related records.

• Provide clerical support for the health room, including filing, copying, distributing materials, answering phones, and using email, computers, document readers, and other District communication systems.

• Communicate promptly with the RN and appropriate school staff regarding student health concerns, communicable disease concerns, injuries, illnesses, or other matters requiring follow-up.

• Contact parents/guardians regarding student illness or injury, or assist school staff in communicating health-related information, within the scope of the position and as directed by the RN.

• Assist the RN with mandated health screenings and other health services activities as assigned.

• Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student, family, and staff information.

• Attend required in-services, workshops, training programs, and student health-related meetings as assigned.

• Perform varied tasks and respond appropriately to changing priorities, student health needs, and interruptions in a busy school environment.

• Cultivate and model a respectful, professional, and supportive working and learning environment when interacting with students, families, staff, and members of the public.

• Take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, medications, and health room supplies.

• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality at the assigned worksite(s) and work the regular hours established for the position.

• Comply with District policies, administrative regulations, procedures, and applicable laws.

• Perform other related duties and special assignments as directed by the supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS Work is primarily performed in a school health room and educational setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families. The position may involve exposure to illness, bodily fluids, and other health-related conditions and requires the use of appropriate safety precautions. Duties require frequent movement, standing, bending, and the ability to lift or assist with up to 50 pounds. The work environment may be fast-paced and require responding calmly to unexpected health needs or emergencies. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR Special Services Director/Building Principal TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Salary and work year are determined by the negotiated agreement and the needs of the District. Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check. PAID TIME OFF - All regular, non-substitute employees receive paid time off, including annual and/or vacation leave. Paid time off varies by position and work year.
